Plz don’t show jagex this they’re just gonna be like “oh hell yeah we don’t have to do shit for Linux users now”

Linking to a reddit thread for support, lmao. What if the user changes it to delete every file on your computer?

Oh it's fine since you added: Jagex is not responsible for the maintenance and safety of content produced and hosted by third parties and any use of third-party sites is at your own risk.

I'm not sure if you've read the thread that's linked, but the comment contains methodology using Wine and Runelite files, the user provides no download links and it's effectively common practise for emulation on Linux, just made easier and directly related to being able to make use of the Jagex Launcher.

At this stage it's not something we're able to officially support, hence us highlighting various examples of users providing guidance to help out other Linux users.

Does the launcher automatically launch RL if already downloaded on your device? Or do you need to uninstall and reinstall?

The Launcher includes a dropdown where you can choose between the vanilla client and Runelite. If you've already got Runelite installed it should just launch as normal, if not then the Launcher should set Runelite up for you.

Assuming you're playing on different characters you can, but I don't think the game works in a way that the same character could be logged in to both OSRS and RS3 simultaneously.

I'm pretty sure most of that is saved locally, if you've already got Runelite installed it'll just boot as normal - I didn't have to do any reconfiguring when I made the switch!

Sorry, i'm a bit lost on the security portion of the update. If my recovery info is out there, and someone gets access to my account, can they still remove the authenticator on the osrs account and log in?

If your character is tied to your Jagex Account, the only person who should be able to recover it is you - hence the importance of as many players as possible upgrading to a Jagex Account.

Even if the update is simply "we are working on it, but don't have an ETA yet".

So at this stage of the beta, our focus is solely on making sure the Jagex Accounts system is solid and serving players properly. HDOS remains an approved client, and while it isn't on the Launcher at this time - we aren't ruling it out at this stage!

By default it's not, though I feel like this is circumvented a little with RuneLite's recent 'profiles' feature? Though I understand this might be a little cumbersome to set up for the first time. :(

I signed up and everything but was never shown any backup codes and can't find them anywhere.

Hey! So if you missed it the first time around, you should be able to log in to your Jagex account and head to your Jagex Account settings (should be this link).

Once you're there, under the 'Two-step Authentication' section, you'll have an option to 'Replace' your Backup codes if you missed them, it'll give you a new set of backup codes - make sure to note them down and never show them to anybody else!

When this goes fully open, is there any reason I WOULDNT want to import all of my accounts, including my very first one from 2005?

There shouldn't be - some things in the short term might include lack of HDOS on the Jagex Launcher at this stage, but if you're looking to secure your account properly then it's absolutely in your interests to import them all to a secure Jagex Account.

When I first heard about Jagex accounts, I thought it would be a hub similar to World of Warcrafts character hub where i can have multiple characters but only be logged into one at a time. I was excited at the proposition to try another hcim account. This isnt the case tho correct? If i tie in a 2nd account to my 1 jagex account i still have to pay for 2 memberships?

You're correct, it's just a way for you to secure as many characters as you like under a single, secure Jagex Account. For many players this will be converting a single OS account/character into a single Jagex Account, for others they'll be importing several characters into one Jagex Account. You still have to pay membership per character.

The Jagex Launcher should have a drop-down allowing you to select 'Runelite' instead of the official client when you're picking a character to log in on. Can you provide any more details?

The option to replace them is grayed out. Do I need to set that up first? I was reading and saw that its tied to mobile authenticator. Do I need to have that enabled (rather than email code) to get the back up codes? Thanks.

I'd say give it a go with authenticator app (I could be wrong but I think using an MFA app on a secure device is considered better OpSec over email auth), if still greyed out and no backup codes then I'll get in touch with the team to try and understand the issue.

Replied to this in another comment, but for your benefit: we're not able to officially support Linux at the moment. We have a Support article up detailing ways other players have found to install Jagex Launcher on Linux if it's of any use: https://help.jagex.com/hc/en-gb/articles/13413514881937

Sorry for the delay on this one, was waiting for a response to make sure I don't misinform.

At this point we're looking to collect more feedback (part of what the beta is for) in terms of how many characters makes sense. For the time being you'll only be able to import 10 characters to a Jagex Account - that number may change in future.

It'd be useful for us to know exactly how many characters you're looking to be able to import onto the same Jagex Account?

The Jagex Launcher is also available on macOS, so you shouldn't have any issues using it! If you do, there is a support guide here you can use for more info.

Yoinking directly from this Support article: https://help.jagex.com/hc/en-gb/articles/13495559329937-Jagex-account-recovery

"To ensure security, Jagex Accounts have no manual account recovery procedures that may be subject to human error. Follow these steps to recover your account yourself."

If you've lost access to your email, we suggest contacting your email service provider to try to regain access. If you can't recall the email address linked to your Jagex account, we suggest trying to log in using any previous email addresses that you can remember. For the sake of optimal account security, we're unable to modify your Jagex account email or disclose it to you.

Sounds like if you lose your email, one way or another, your account is gone for good. Though it doesn’t explicitly state that old recovery information is being wiped.

This is exactly what the backup codes are for, they're your last line of defence so make sure to note them down and never show them to anybody.
