It is truly an excellent video. It was very interesting to see concepts that I and the team have thought about almost explained back to us with different metaphors and ways of thinking about it. Helped to challenge ourselves on our way of thinking.

He manages to explain some things in a really succinct way which is awesome and I've previously encouraged people who haven't seen it on the dev team to watch it! It is also weird to describe something as succinct when it is 3h30 long but think that just speaks to the scale of what OSRS is haha and the time it takes to really deeply understand what makes it tick.

A lot of these things explain why this game works and isn't merely nostalgia. I've long considered that if it was purely nostalgia, peopole would play for a little bit and quick relatively quickly.

The section about the 'knobs' I've considered previously with a light bulb metaphor, which I normally simplify to 3 bulbs. One is "AFK-ability", "Rewards & GP/hr" and "XP/hr" when balancing skilling methods. You only have so much power to distribute between those 3 bulbs, so if you spend it all on XP/hr it is likely to not be as strong in AFK-ability or rewards. You can also consider the amount of power you have as scaling up with the level requirement of the content (or the player depending on the design). I strongly believe the right method for skills is to offer variety, some people like different ways of training, having a few different options to suit different types of player is awesome. That is not to say everything will have an uber afk option, that'd never feel right for agility for example, but that is still to say there should be a relatively more AFK option inside agility itself even if it is more intense than other skills.

Sorry for the brain spew :)
