Please note, the 1kc requirement applies to you if you've left your group and joined a new one, or if you join an existing group (i.e you are not prestiged anymore).

I also think there’s a 7 day grace period before you can join a new one if you’ve left another group.
Edit: it was my misunderstanding, you can only make a new group as an existing player. This is to prevent boosting, I apologise for the miscommunication there :)
Yes, I tried to apply and it says I can't join the group since I'm an experienced player, and the same when he tried to invite me.
Edit: I’ve just found out it was my misunderstanding. So I’d love to clear it up. You will only be able to make a new group once you’ve left a group, as a leader. This design decision is made to prevent boosting :) so it was my misunderstanding on that.
I’m inclined to agree. That particular paragraph seems to 100% suggest you can join an existing team
