Whatโ€™s your fantasy controversial update you actually want to put in the game but the shackles of oppression restrict you from doing

Not sure if it's that controversial but I'd love to see another raid drop similar to TOB in difficulty and group requirement. I love aspirational content and having something to exist to 'chase', and also having a difficulty level to creep towards rather than just power-creeping content that people are already farming really handedly.

OSRS is so full of content but I'd just love to see us go harder on some really good and challenging group content that you're tackling and learning with friends, and something that excites the types of players who don't feel they've had much to do beyond speedrun since TOB release.

I'm pretty happy with anything though, would just love to see us touch on something that feels as Herculean an accomplishment as stuff like Mythic release for WoW xpacs. Obviously OSRS' gear system doesn't lend itself much to things like 'progression raiding' in the same way that things like WoW do, but personally I've always felt a certain kind of magic about me and a huge group struggling against content for literally weeks in the hopes of finally clearing it. Then finally clearing it and still struggling with reclears until you get to the point where you feel like you've gotten comfortable, then achieving mastery over the content? Just something about it, would love to see it happen and be there as a pinnacle goal for people, though I'm not sure it'd be popular with the wider playerbase (especially because it's not a small project).

There's my fantasy controversial update - pls don't crucify me!

Oof you mentioned WoW just be ready for the replies brother ๐Ÿ˜‚

I mean hey, game recognises game, OSRS is unmatched for me but I'd be lying if I said I don't have far too many hours in WoW, Classic WoW, RS3, Lost Ark and FF14 - bits and pieces to love about all of them. I just love MMOs, even if I whole-heartedly believe ours is better than all of the others, there are for sure bits and pieces I love about other MMOs that we don't have, though a lot of the time it's kind of apples-to-oranges because of how fundamentally different OSRS is from most of the other titles I'm invested in!

A lot of people don't understand just how much aspirational content encourages people to play the game at all levels.

As someone who's done ultimate in 14 and nightmare in SWTOR, ToB was a piece of content that motivated me to work on my hardcores that were nowhere near ToB. The idea that "maybe someday I can take my hardcore into ToB" even if I may never make it.

Aspirational content should ever be a part of an MMO, to hell with what whiners who don't want to do it will think. When aspirational content gets removed or devauled, or is at risk of it, I tend to want to play the game significantly less.

Think it's all a matter of perspective isn't it? Fight Caves were aspirational content on release, now they're a benchmark goal for so many players - but they're less of a struggle now as players' understanding of the game improves, the quality of resources available is better, and the gear available is better too.

Maybe one day we get to a point where Inferno's in the same boat and there's a whole new mammoth achievement at the top. It's difficult because obviously a lot of players want content they can feasibly engage with as soon as it releases, but I'd love to see more things that people see and think 'one day, I'm gonna do that and it's going to feel so good', because that retention and long-term goal is (imo) really important for MMOs. Especially MMOs as goal-centric as OSRS!

One of the things I love about TOA is how many more people seem to be realising PvM is more approachable than they thought, and you can start to see people shift to COX and even TOB over time as their comfort improves. Funnel is v cool, just would love more stuff to be funnelling really skilled players into also!

Have you played much of the Guild Wars series?

I actually played a teeny bit of GW2 when it was B2P initially, I've not jumped back into it since though. I hear it's in a really good spot these days from some people, I'll have to ask Light to show me the ropes bc she's got thousands of hours in GW2.

Never touched GW1, but had loads of friends in school who were obsessed with it!
