Looking at all the constant fan art, crabs and new content, I have to say I think this is the golden age of RS. Sure it doesn’t have the same nostalgia as exploring the whole map for the first time and thinking full mithril is the sh*t, but it has a ton to discover in itself.
Starting a new Ironman is like playing an entire new game, you learn thousands of new things you never would’ve dreamed of as a regular player. It’s another level of discovery, or at least it was for me. Now that I have a UIM it’s even more different. I’m constantly discovering things literally every week and it’s been years.
Even more than that though, what really makes it the golden age for me is the community interaction. I love the crabs and God Ash praise be to his name. Matt K’s slams and the Q&A are awesome. We literally decide the direction of the game, and it’s been pretty good in my opinion. I love the new content, especially when comparing it to the real content we got a few years after 07. Nobody wants the wheel of fortune or a new tutorial. I hated the trade limit and the wilderness turning into BH. The direction is entirely different now and I’ve never seen a game have this level of community involvement. It’s honestly astonishing.
There’s tons of fan art and great suggestions literally every week on this subreddit. Ironman mode really changed everything for me and so many others. It gives me the same childhood satisfaction when I accomplish things as I had back when I was 9 playing and thought 100k was a lot of gold. There are definitely some cons sure, safeman mode and efficiency scape can be a bit of a cancer but still I think all around the game is simply better than it was in the supposed golden age of our childhood. The community is better, and even the osrs team is better. I may be alone in this, but I enjoy RS now more than ever. Burn me at the stake, meme me, do what you gotta do, but for me, this is what I always wanted RS to be.
