I would have made the post yesterday but i was trying to grab many examples of what's going on. This isn't easy "work" and i would much rather be playing then spending my time getting clips and editing. Im really not sure how this got passed through given the delays to release this patch. :/

Basically If you aren't the host this game is unplayable now. Before the patch at least if you where able to deal with a bit of lag d-sync and delay on skill usage and weapon usage AP mods and deal with some mods not working you could play as not the host on some classes and it be ok.

Forget it now. No matter the class you play its broke. AP builds are the worst or any fast paced build.

I took some clips of whats going on here and had to split it in 2 videos due to reddit:

Please note, I want to be clear. It doesn't matter whether i have yellow, red or perfect clean connection. The issues are still the same but the worse the connection goes it seems to amplify the issues more. Meaning while Red bars is worse then yellow and clean connection it really doesn't matter because neither of them are playable. All share the same issues i just might see more of the same issues with a red bar connection vs a yellow bar connection. In other words i might see 10 d-sync teleports with a red bar connection but only 8 on a yellow bar connection and 5 on a "clean good" connection.

Here are the issues in text:

1)Rubber banding is back now. Worse then i remember

2)D-sync is worse now. Seems to be about 3 meters "in game measurement" of d-sync now. Effects player and abilities/mod proc's. Teleports you....

3) Delay/lag in proc's of abilities and Mods. Like moaning winds, ash blast/overheat, shadow comet, applying status effect like toxic, bleed or vulnerable, gravity leap, hunt the pray, thermal bomb etc etc. I can literally name nearly all of them. There is just a huge delay/lag now with anything you do.

4) "Not new" but much worse now casting certain skills like earth quake and shrapnel mines is super slow when not the host. "Rip my keyboard bc of how much i need to spam"

Those are the major issues playing multiplayer when not the host that i encountered. It is unplayable for me. :(

To be further clear, there is more bugs that i have ran into after the 8/12 patch that i dint mention. But in this post i just wanted to stick to the not the host multiplayer connection issues.

Most of the other bugs are the same old bugs that have been in the game since launch or for a while that have just gotten alot worse or amplified with the 8/12 patch. I will try to make another post over the weekend with video showing these issues.

I really dont know what to say anymore. This is Just disappointing. I've lost being frustrated or mad or pissed off at this point. Im just sad and disappointed bc multiplayer is all i do in outriders and its the only enjoyable thing for me but that seems to be the most broken always. Lots of Mods dont work, your damage output is cut in half and connection issue is the worst i have ever seen in a multiplayer game. I hope it gets fixed one day but i have lost faith that it will and this is what it is at this point. I was really excited to hear that PCF did more multiplayer tuning but it seems like something went wrong. :(

Its not like one can just say play as the host to solve this because then you run into the other major issues where some mods dont work when you play as the host and you end up losing 30? 40? 50%??? of your damage. "Not just moaning winds issue its every thing in the game. Bullet builds and AP abilities"

So for the past 2 months for me ever since i figured out the whole host vs not host damage issue and reported it, its been either deal with the poor connection of multiplayer and have correct good damage or have good connection and lose alot of your damage. Pick your poison basically.

I know PCF are doing the best they can with what they got and im happy we atleast got that. I just wish if there was 1 thing they could fix and only that it would be the multiplayer issues. 1 WISH

Anywho, Not to leave on a bad note I just want to say that im having a blast with all the buffs and changes this patch brought us. It seriously feels like a different game at times playing with some of the newly buffed abilities that previously i rarely used. Cant wait to fully explore my option over the next couple weeks. A slow trap build really was something i wanted to make since the demo. Now with the shorter cooldown i hope i can make it work. :D i'm havign a blast on my techno AP shrapnel and rocket build too.

Keep those buffs and changes coming PCF. They are very much appreciated by the community.👍

If there is anything else you need u/thearcan just let me know and i will try to provide it for you.

Thanks for the extensive report and insight as always /u/vapoorer! Apologies for the late reply here, but I can assure you that I immediately fedback to the team as soon as I got early reports of this rubberbanding occurring on Thursday afternoon.

Our QA team was able to run some tests based on the circumstances as in seen in one of the previous report videos (and they will also be reviewing your videos).

We found that there is indeed some severe rubberbanding effect when it comes to being knocked back by AI enemies - I think your video shows this effect occurring as well (2nd video at 0:16ish). However, as also seen in your video, there are likely other things occurring that can trigger rubberbanding and D-sync issues, and we will need more time to investigate those.

Speaking as a not-network-engineer person: The above indicate that these new issues are very likely unrelated to the connection quality and more related to something occurring within the game (such as a Knockback action and whatever happens codewise when that occurs).

I've discussed this with the online team, and we will revert the backend changes that can affect this behaviour to their pre-patch state. This means that your connectivity experience should return to what it was before the patch.

The change has now been made on the backend, but we haven't run a maintenance against it. You should get the updated backend if you simply logout and in again. Please let me know if your connectivity experience is back to how it was pre-patch.

On our side, we'll take a deeper look into why certain actions might be causing this issue and will see what else we can do to improve connectivity for the wider playerbase.

For a bit of Technical Background:

The changes we made were implemented to eliminate micro rubberbanding on common player actions such as running, vaulting, dodge rolling etc.

From one of the initial videos we reviewed, it looks like there was a big location desync between the player and the server. Our correction compensation exceeded the threshold set and the user experienced a severe rubberband. This correction value can be adjusted from the backend. We're checking with QA to see what improvements we can make to the global player experience by adjusting the value in specific directions.
