The multiplayer game is basically riders/roads vs. special tribes or some variation thereof, e.g. riders/roads vs riders/roads. I am guessing Midjiwan has the internal metrics to prove this. Haha
I think this dramatically reduces the potential of this absurdly well designed (art/user interface/single player options) game.
So some random suggestions to the designers that admittedly wouldn't make sense to adopt them all:
-Nerf riders/roads. I don't know what form this should take but most games become some version of this and that's not fun to me. And why do knights move farther than horses?
-Nerf Bardur economy. It's just absurd. Or just reset the tribe all together
-Like a lot players, I dislike Cymanti. I don't consider them overpowered but the boosted hex spam is their [weaker] version of riders/roads and remarkably boring. If you nerf riders/roads, I'd just scrap the hex and replace with something else
-Many of the tribes need boosts, esp. like Xin-xi, Luxidoor, Ai-Mo, Quetzali and maybe Hoodrick. An additional tech or unit, perhaps? I played a Xin-xi vs Quetzali game today and it was pure bliss with two very different, fresh strategies...with that in mind....
-Establish a new game mode where the tribes are randomized and blind until the players start. Maybe incent this play style with extra ELO? I would pay extra for this mode, to be honest.
-To be clear, folks should be able to play any tribe they want, but that doesn't mean I should be forced to play Bardur or Cymanti over and over (or the default tribe depending on the map). This means either a blind random mode or being able to block tribes when a player set ups a multiplayer game
-Aquarion has potential but needs major boosts, if not overhauled. Likely the same goes for water/naval economy and tactics, which will also help players get out of the riders/roads box
Just my two cents! Midjiwan has made a great game, and I think some mix of these changes will significantly attract new players (with new money!!) . In the end, Polytopia won't survive with multi-year players that no longer financially support the game.
Thanks for reading this far. Haha
