Hey everyone,
If you've been watching the sub over the weekend, you'll know that there's been some drama around the removal of the "Aquarion alphabet post," and I'd like to talk about it and what we plan to do about it.
Reddit is a fun place, and things like trends and multi-sub memes aren't uncommon. The "alphabet posts" are a current trend across many subs, and that's fine. Sometimes, though, these things run into "spam" territory, or they can inspire a trend of low-effort posts that can borderline on "not even the point of the sub". You can probably guess why that could be hard to moderate at times, especially since everyone's idea of "spam" is different. One person's "funny injoke" is another person's "overused meme format," and this was no different.
After looking it over, I've determined that one of our moderators, MillionBadger, thought it was spam/"clogging up the sub" and removed it without discussing it with the other moderators. He was also concerned about some inappropriate language being used in the comments of a few of them. Like, we all knew what was going to happen when we got to the letter N, and honestly, that's not something we'd like on this sub (or anywhere else, really). We try to keep the place *relatively* family-friendly, and being overly crass or obscene isn't necessarily something we'd like to see here.
So, now what? Well, after a weekend of discussion with the other mods of this sub, we've come to a conclusion on how to proceed.
- We will allow the "Aquarion alphabet posts" to continue, just so long as we all keep it clean and fit for the sub's standards. Feel free to work from P to Z, u/Gamerupgraded, and then this whole thing will be over. Just don't make any more afterward, please. :)
- We will remove any copycat posts that might arise, as any more alphabet posts are going to be considered "overdone". While we try to allow some of these multi-sub memes to happen here, we don't want this to turn into spam.
- We will be removing any more posts trying to rile up anti-mod/-MillionBadger sentiment, even including some that were already posted. We're trying to make this right, and any further harassment or unwarranted bashing of the mods will be removed, as it's not helping anyone out. There's a fine line between "disliking the actions of the mods" and "harassment".
- We will be more diligent about removing spawn, large army, and other spam posts. We acknowledge that we've slumped a little on keeping the sub clean, and we promise to do a better job. Please use the report button to tell us what you do and don't want to see here. :)
We're sorry for the misunderstanding, and so we're allowing the posts to continue for now. So, thank you for understanding, and if you have any questions, please post them here!
