[2023] Hey, I’ve designed a potential new feature in Polytopia, it’s called Custom Map Design. Before I post it on the Polytopia discord, I wanted to get some feedback and ideas from the community, so let me know what you think and if I’ve overlooked anything important. Thank you!

Introducing the Custom Map Design feature in Polytopia! With this feature, you can create and customize your own maps from a blank canvas, and share them with friends online. You can even upload them to multiplayer mode and play together on your unique creation.

To start building your custom map, choose from six different sizes and select the tribe for which you want to add terrain. You can switch the terrain skin at any time during the customization process. Once you've selected a tribe, you can begin adding terrain to the map. You have a range of terrains to choose from, including fields, villages, forests, mountains, water, and oceans. Note that water and ocean placement is limited to the rules of the natural landscape.

From there, you can add fruit and crops to the fields, wild animals to the forests, metal to the mountains, fish to the water, and whales to the oceans. You can also choose which technologies and tribes are allowed in the game, giving you complete control over the gameplay experience.

With Custom Map Design, you have full control over the number of players and the number and difficulty of bots, as well as the placement of all their capitals. This allows you to create a truly personalized and strategic gaming experience.

It's worth noting that custom maps do not affect your ELO scores or Win Ratios, so you can experiment and explore without worrying about your rankings.
