Welcome to. There is an authentication problem with Rainbow Six Sige. I purchased the product a few days ago. I bought it years ago as a boxed dvd version, but now it didn't work because I thought it was out of date, so I bought it again. Could this be why I am running into the error? I used to have an Uplay account, but it has now been discontinued because of that. I think it's due to inactivity. I don't have many email addresses. Could that be why it won't let me start it?

The scenario you mentioned can indeed lead to an authentication error. If you purchased the game and used a new email to create a new Ubisoft account, after launching the game from Steam it will still seek to connect with the original account.
