Damn, that's some hardcore copyright infringement.

Can you tell me anything about it specific? Date, time, which channel, which program?

Thanks either way.

French law allow to play short samples of music or video without authorization, it is fair use. There are conditions and this show probably shouldn't have used your music, but then its you who would have to prove that this wasn't fair use. TVs abuse this law all the time. As far as I know most copyright owner don't think it is worth the hassle to fight it.

This is useful, thank you very much for the contextual information.

Heya! I'm a French lawyer (=/= attorney) turned university teacher who specialize in intellectual property and GDPR. (and fabulously broken English)

If you want some info, do not hesitate to ask.

Cheers.

Edit : some stuff anyway.

French TV uses the SACEM, it's essentially a bunch of resources (including music) that the channel subscribed to in exchange for... well, using said resources. SACEM is then meant to compensate the partners for their work.

Most channels assume that every artist is on board with SACEM, or an equivalent and just... roll with it.

Obviously if the soundtrack was never registered in such a program...

You've got a pretty clear case of copyright infringement.

I think I'm going to use this in my IP class, do you mind if I use the litigious video containing the soundtrack ? (educational purpose only ofc, okay maybe I want an excuse to run Rimworld at work.)

Thanks for the info!

The RimWorld OST isn't registered in SACEM or anything else like that.

Yeah, you're welcome to use the reddit video.
