Twitch VOD

  • 16 December is the last update of the year.
  • Java client shuts down on 18 December.
  • Smooth movement releases next week.
  • Stormguard Archaeology Journal
    • Will be run-down because history has not been kind to it, so don't expect it to look pristine.
    • Site is based at the Temple of Ikov.
    • Invention based content.
    • Hopefully some steps towards Rite of Passage.

Daily Challenges Rework

  • 16 December.
  • Will try to release a blog about this.
  • Some of them are tedious.
  • A few are very popular such as Dungeoneering.
  • We've attempted to generalise the challenges. Instead of cook 25 Summer Pies, it'll be cook whatever you want 25 times.
  • No longer need to hand in what you make for the challenge.
  • Challenge Mysery Bags removed.
  • New interface
  • Claim rewards button so no need to go to the Burthorpe etc to complete challenges.
  • Gives XP directly from the interface, combat challenges will reward a lamp (because of pures).
  • All challenges will now give the equivalent of a huge XP lamp including Dungeoneering (68.8k XP at level 98+)

Q&A

  • We are looking to do post-release updates for Farming and Herblore.
  • We are waiting for DXPW data and will show it on stream:
    • 31,800 accounts achieved a 99 or 120.
    • 1,300 were 120 Herblore.
    • 460 were 120 Farming.
    • We've received a lot of positive feedback about this style of DXPW and we will be looking to do more things that encourage a more healthier style of gaming. More info on duty of care next week.
  • We're looking to do more surveys in 2020.
  • No plans to do Winter Weekends this year but there is the bonfire event on 2 January.
  • Stone spirits are missing a few numbers then it should be ready.
  • After Archaeology we would like to focus on things like PvM Hub.
  • We are looking at making a neat solution for Nightshade.
  • No plans for boss timers for KQ and Corp but it is possible to do.
  • Dead clicks are being looked at.
  • More Farming and Herblore achievements? Yes there are a couple planned.
  • Will not be adding Ravensworn achievements.
  • We may give Prehistoric Potterington a home, if we do we are more likely to not make it constructable.
  • Baby dinosaur pet? Potentially, but Reddit has recently told us they don't want more pets.
  • We would love to do a Farming tick rework but it's a huge job.
  • Does Powerbust of Sorcery fill urns faster? It doesn't give more XP so no.
  • Seed storage has technical limitations but Mod Helen is looking into long-term solutions.

Speaking of Easty's farming project...

It's from january, but likely still applies.

We've spoken about that recently (I was the developer that had to mess with all the farming code for this project). We both agree that his rework of the system needs yet another rework and all of the relevant farming data would ideally all be placed into a lovely, organised relational database.

The current system is full of pitfalls, bad code smells, and ridiculous scripting practices from over a decade ago where there wasn't much other choice.

Excited about the daily challenge overhaul and the pet poll - although could you edit that reindeer clue scroll pet, it's wrongfully credited to me (I wish I could draw that well!), I think the pet is called Artemis though :)

Ah my bad. I definitely saw it on there, put 2 and 2 together and made 5. Apologies to the correct artist - it looks great!

Do pures still exist in RS3?

Can Jagex work on the PvM hub before Archaeology? I don't want the boss portal to be locked behind 99 Archaeology.

How big of a job is it? OSRS already did it with a much smaller team.

It's not a case of how big an update is, but if there is capacity for the team to work on it. The Arch team would love if PvM hub could come out first, but at this late stage in our development, we're in need of certain resources that the hub also needs, so the only way PvM hub could come out first is if we delayed the release of Arch solely to allow for that (and you can imagine not many people here being in favour of doing that). Besides, the hub only became a possibility after Arch had been in development for a year.

It's possible we could put in a stopgap measure, though such is the opposite of guaranteed and not the best use of the Arch team's time right now. If we can't, then I would encourage players to just boss w/o the boss portal for a short while, rather than detriment their experience with the skill, but if that's what some choose to do it's up to them. At least PvM hub will be able to resolve this issue in the long term.
