Apologies for skipping over this on the update show. It's been discussed and tested a lot internally but we should have gone over it in more detail.

Historically in SMITE, when you use a CC cleanse while standing in a persistent CC area, you will remain immune to that CC until you leave the area or the effect fades, even if your god is no longer CC immune.

This has led to many bug reports over the years including clips rising high up on r/smite like one that showed a Thor using his full ability combo from inside a Nox silence. We felt that this was indeed a bug and should be fixed. It was not an easy fix so we finally just got it ready for this next update 9.6.

It will have some significant impacts on specific character matchups, and it does nerf gods with very short cleanses like Geb or Chiron.

Here is the list of persistent CC effects that will reapply after immunity ends in 9.6:

  • AMC - Honey (slow)

  • Anhur - Pillar (slow)

  • Arachne - 3/4 (slow)

  • Ares - 1 (slow/cripple on a new chain)

  • Artio - Druid 2 (cripple)

  • Baka - Regurgitate (slow)

  • Chaac - Rain Dance (slow)

  • Cupid - Fields of Love (slow and cripple)

  • Discordia - Ult (cripple)

  • Ganesha - Ohm (silence)

  • Ganesha - Ult (slow)

  • Gilgamesh - Ult (slow only on edge)

  • He Bo - 2 (slow)

  • Morgan Le Fay - B01 (slow)

  • Nox - 2 (silence)

  • Olorun - Ult (time dilation)

  • Poseidon - Whirlpool (cripple and vortex)

  • Scylla - Crush (slow)

  • Sobek - Ult (slow)

  • Ymir - Ult (slow)

Olorun ult is the only one that currently works as intended and reapplies.

We understand why this could be frustrating and we will be open to discussion on not moving forward with the change depending on how PTS feedback goes, and most likely initial live 9.6 time. Unsure if we can back the change out before 9.6 goes live.

The fix seems like a big win for clarity and consistency of mechanics in SMITE. However, it might be tempting to leave the issue in place because everyone is used to how it currently works.

We appreciate the feedback and will keep the discussion going as we move forward. Thanks.
