Stellaris is not a single player anymore or it never was?

Multiplayer balance is always a secondary consideration. Most of our competitive communities will balance the game with house rules.

Every expansion, every planet is like a self inflicted wound. For me the main target of Stellaris (3.2) is expanding, creating a great empire, creating a federation and rule them all. Or hunger and crisis, eat em all. Every system, every planet is pain, and there is no 'simple minded' solution (like building offices) to counter that evil spread malus. The main game goal of 3.3 seems to be to counter the spread. The entity that counters it best wins. (Or war. Thats an overall solution)

As stated before, the major difference between 3.2 and 3.3 is the building you use to offset the Empire Size penalties. 3.2 uses admin buildings, 3.3 uses unity buildings and science labs.

The point of this change was to make a wide empire have diminishing returns the wider it gets, and reduce the overall snowball. Snowballing is still possible, and wide is still more powerful than tall (as it should be), just less powerful than it was before.
