EDIT: Wow. Thanks folks. I had no idea we could play with heroes for free until level 5. That makes so much more sense. Yet, we were confused that we were allowed to play with them because it said "Purchase"

I've been the biggest fan of FG and have done my best to bring friends into the game. Their reactions have been depressing.

  • "I paid $25 and now I have to buy heroes? WTF. I'm refunding this game."
  • Units look generic and uninspired (particularly Vanguard)
  • Fantasy of strong AIR unit army impossible with Vanguard (Carriers feel basically useless, why do I have to invest in bombers, too? This is so stupid.)

This leads me to the following observation:

  • According to FG, Most people play Campaign & Co-op
  • From my own experience, Vanguard are the least interesting race to play (Infernals and Celestials sell Stormgate much better)
  • We've seen tons of cases of people being upset about having to pay for heroes in Co-op (in my brothers case, its bad because he really wanted to try the other races in co-op but was paywalled out of it).

Please, FG, I beg you: make 1 Hero for each race free to play in Co-op. (Or at least make 1 infernal hero free in Co-op so people can try another race).

This pricing model of F2P but you have to pay to play the early access is kind of off putting. With all of the disappointment in gaming lately (looking at you blizzard) I'm not looking to pay for a demo, especially not pay for a demo of a F2P game. This is going to scare off people who are on the fence about trying a game from a new studio at a time when the studio should be capitalizing on new release hype. If the game is F2P then early access should be F2P. This has similar vibes to Diablo 4 launch bundling early access into the collectors edition or whatever they called it.

Edit: When I posted this an hour before Gerald's response and apparently before the "free" early access started, the only option on steam was buy Stormgate and "Early access pack" combo for $25. Going back now i see a free play option. When i hear early access starts on the 13th and i go to to steam the morning of the 13th and all i see is an option to page $25 for early access what am I supposed to think?

Either way my comment still stands for the paid early access period that has apparently ended.

Gentle reminder that this is incorrect. We release to early access in about 15 minutes and you don't need to pay to play.
