What CPU and GPU temperatures are you seeing when this freeze happens? I use Macs Fan Control but there are other apps of course.

And when it freezes can you kill the game in Force Quit then load it again right away okay?

Please attach here the latest log from the game :

~/Library/Application Support/Surviving Mars/logs/

To find that file, in Finder do cmd-shift-G to bring up the GOTO box. In there paste ~/Library/ . You will see a /Application Support/ folder, and inside that /Surviving Mars/ and then a /logs/ folder. Please attach the latest file from in there to here by dropping it on this support ticket, or use the "Attach file" link here.

Also in Steam please click on Steam-Help-System Info, and paste everything there into a text file and attach that here.

Yeah, temps in the 90s are way too high, they should never get over 80c. And that is with the fans at full blast too!

Note that this game is not supported on Intel video hardware on MacOS, although I doubt that's your problem here.

In the game's display settings, set the framerate cap to say 60 - is that any better?

I am sure it does, and the new patch that came with it has more new features too. But OTOH we are not seeing other reports like this, on Macs or generally.

With the framerate capped are you still seeing temps over 90c? If so you might need some hardware help on that. I have to clean out the 2 iMacs in my house regularly with compressed air cans to prevent them overheating.

Please post in that game's forums on that, I'm sure we can fix that for you.

I bought a compressed air can and blasted it through the air vents. Big lumps of dust came out and the temps dropped substantially.

Failing that you need to get it to a Mac dealer or the Genius bar I'm afraid!

That doesn't actually sound like the exact same issue then!

Have you had your Mac cleaned out, as I described above? What temps are you seeing?

Definitely a different issue then, as the OP was getting temps in the 90s.

I didn't know there were water-cooled Macs!

Do these freezes happen when the save game file gets up near 50mb? I've seen reports of that.

Can you attach one here please (or post a link to it on Dropbox or wherever), so I can try it locally?

Something went wrong the the attempt to attach it in there, I just get a few error lines when I click on that link.
