Hi Holotable Heroes,

Today, we are showcasing the second character who will be part of the new Geonosis Territory Battle. If you haven’t done so already, check out the Developer Intentions for Geonosian Brood Alpha, who will be needed to unlock Wat Tambor from a special mission on the new Territory Battle map. Read on to hear from CG_Prototype about the Wat Tambor, the Leader of the Techno Union and then hop over to the Arena and Character Strategy section to check out the kit!

Q: Why are we excited about this character?
CG_P: Wat Tambor is the first non-combatant for the Dark Side and his ability to control the vast resources of the Techno Union makes him a powerful addition to your roster, especially your Separatist teams. We’ve been wanting to add a “Dark Side Hermit Yoda” for some time and this is the perfect opportunity.

Q: What makes the character unique?
CG_P: Wat Tambor’s unique, Mass Manufacture, provides his allies with Tech pieces that essentially give them additional “mini uniques” for the rest of the battle. This allows for numerous different strategies and lines of play even in the same matchup. You have a ton of control over your team depending on which tech piece is used first and who is the target.

Another unique feature for Wat is PoTs! So now we have HoTs, DoTs, and PoTs but “what the heck is PoTs?” you may be asking. It’s Protection Over Time which is an effect that’s been available on ships, but is coming to a character for the first time. Protection Over Time is analogous to healing over time with Wat restoring up to 30% (at max level) of all allies’ max protection for each of two turns.

Q: What scenes or moments were you trying to capture?
CG_P: Wat Tambor is an incredibly cool looking character with a ton of depth, but doesn’t necessarily get a lot of screentime. So, there was a lot of potential to explore how to make Wat Shine, and I had a ton of freedom to create something fun - while drawing attention to just how massive and influential the Techno Union is. Wat Tambor was essential to the Separatist operations in the prequels because of his ability to pull together manufacturers of technology from across the galaxy.

Q: How does that play into your intention for the character?
CG_P: Wat Tambor’s Tech piece names are call outs to those manufacturers alluded to above. With access to such wide-ranging technology from across the galaxy, Wat is a multifaceted character with a variety of abilities:

The Baktoid Shield Generator - Named after the Baktoid Armor Workshop which was responsible for the production of some of the battle droids, weapons, and vehicles used by the Trade Federation.

BlasTech Weapon Mod - Similar to the Geonosian static pike, the bugs had their own extensive manufacturing facilities to create whatever weapons they needed.

Chiewab Medpac - Chiewab is short for Chiewab Amalgamated Pharmaceuticals Company. This medical corporation reached it peak during the Clone Wars.
Q: Why did we create this character?
CG_P: We created this character to give the Separatist faction the versatile support that they needed as well as a versatile plug-and-play support / general-use healer for future PvE content. I’m excited to see how the community theory crafts and comes up innovate squad combinations - as his kit is great for enabling other squads outside of Droids and Separatists.

Q: What squads or specific synergies do you want to highlight?
CG_P: With the introduction of Wat Tambor there’s now a possible Separatist Council squad. He’s also intended to fill the support/healer role in the Separatist faction so that B1 can stay with General Grievous. That being said, Wat Tambor provides much needed support and works well with mix-and-match Separatist teams or the Geonosians.

Q: What key stats to use or avoid?
CG_P: Wat Tambor does not deal damage so avoid offensive stats like Critical Chance or Offense. You’re far better off leaning into Tenacity and Speed.

Q: What abilities should I prioritize?
CG_P: Tech pieces! The most interesting thing about Wat Tambor is that there are many different lines of play to achieve victory. Early on in the balance phase of development the designers got together to discuss their experiences and strategies, and it turned out we were all using Tech in very different ways.

Q: What should we know about this character that we may not notice at first glance?
CG_P: This is not gameplay related but something interesting I came across while doing research. Members of the Skakoan species wore special pressure suits to survive off of their homeworld of Skako, a planet whose atmosphere and pressure was extremely different from the galactic standard. Without one such suit, the body of a Skakoan would explode in a standard, oxygen-based atmosphere. We were considering making this part of this kit, but quickly realized there are no gameplay benefits to having your characters explode.
