Usually when you deploy your repair drone, there's a green beacon, or line that goes to your SHD ring on your backpack.
If you have the Gunner backpack vanity item selected on your backpack, and deploy your repair drone, the green beacon or line that goes to the SHD ring on your backpack goes to your feet, or beneath your character. I don't have video or anything of this, but it's easily testable, which is why I'm laughing at how no one caught this in QA. Do you guys even have a QA department??
So just log in to your character, equip any backpack, then select the Gunner Backpack vanity item, the new one from the apparel event. Then deploy your repair drone.
