Greetings, Flameborn!

Here we are with our second update! This one brings quite a few quality of life changes that we think you'll like, as well as a new area, new content, new features, improvements to existing features, on top of the usual fixes and polish.

Let's start with the big one: the Blackmire, a new area for players level 13-15. Nested in a corner of the Revelwoods, this is sub-biome has beautiful soaring trees, and murky depths. You'll encounter new creatures, few of which will be friendly. To prepare for your journey, make sure your character has a hook and a glider equipped.

If you are revisiting with a more experienced character, you can get an appropriate challenge by equipping lvl 15 gear, resetting your skills at the altar, and investing about 45 points.

To celebrate Enshrouded’s most recent update, Hollow Halls, the Keen Games team will be hosting an Ask Me Anything in this thread on Thursday the 18th at 5:00PM CEST! (11:00AM EST)

Q: "Is this something I need to care about?"
A: Only if you were unable to connect to your dedicated server!
  • Players who are playing on self-hosted servers (solo/peer-to-peer hosting) don't need to do anything, this only applies for dedicated servers.
  • Players who host their own dedicated server can download the new server update and try again.
  • Players who rent from a server provider, they either wait for the servers to be automatically updated, or they can try restarting the server. This will depend on their specific server provider.

Our first update is finally here! Just a few weeks ago we were releasing our first roadmap, and now we’re already ticking a bunch of these boxes… As a team, it feels good! Our goal for each update is to include new content, new features, improvements to existing features, as well as the usual fixes and polish.

The biggest part of the update is undoubtedly the Hollow Halls. You've all been patiently waiting for weeks now, eagerly wondering what's next for Enshrouded. We have been playing it very safe: on the one hand, we have big ambitions for the game, and loads of ideas! On the other hand, Enshrouded is a brand new game, and some of the things we want to do might turn out to be more difficult than we can anticipate!

It's a push-and-pull of wanting to keep you interested, without over-promising on our capacity to deliver.

Nonetheless, we've managed to land on a roadmap that we think will be of interest to everyone. Here is our second big patch for Enshrouded. Once again, thanks to all of you who reported issues, your support is as helpful as it is motivating for us!

For those of you playing with dedicated servers, you will need to ensure the server is running the same version as the game.

We are working on a fix for the "60Hz display rate", but due to the extensive testing needed, we will be aiming to release it as an opt-in branch in a few weeks. This way, players who feel this is an important part of their experience can help us test it out, without any potential issues affecting the community at large. More info on that later!

In less than a month since launching, Enshrouded crossed the two million players mark! Since its first week, the game has held a steady Very positive rating on Steam, and the reception everywhere has been both incredible and humbling. Whether you're one of the celebs, athletes, or one of the two million anonymous Flameborn who have taken up the fight to reclaim Embervale, you're all absolute heroes in our book. We couldn't have expected such a response.

We've already put out multiple hotfixes and a patch to address your concerns and issues. Hi everyone,

We have received feedback from players about the quest progression of Enshrouded. Many of you are frustrated with the fact that it is currently mainly server-side instead of player-side. We have some good news to share.
When designing this system, we believed that the best way to enjoy Enshrouded was with a group of friends who are all working cooperatively together. However, we know that having quests completed while one player is offline might feel bad for those who feel they are missing parts of the gameplay experience.
We designed Enshrouded as a co-op game. While working on it, we envisioned one group of friends experiencing the world together—sharing bases, resources, crafting recipes, and loot.

For those of you playing with dedicated servers, you will need to ensure the server is running the same version as the game.


Known issue "Not enough system memory available" error message on game start This error message triggers when your machine has under 16GB of RAM. It is there to warn you that your experience will probably be pretty bad.
You can bypass by adding "--disable-ram-check" to the game's launch options via Steam to ignore the warning. Keep in mind that if your computer is below specs, it might not be able to run the game in the long run, once we've added all the features we have in mind for Enshrouded!

To protect the player's bases and their progress on the server from other players, we highly recommend to always set a password, whether you are hosting a peer-to-peer server or using a dedicated server. This will give you control over who is joining your server. Likewise, be mindful of who you are inviting to your server.

In case you plan to open up the server for any reason, it is always possible to back up the save data locally, just in case.

During Early Access, we plan as a top priority to implement server-wide rights that can be set by the server admin for each player, such as guests with only viewing rights, members who can build and use the base, and moderators who can set the rights for other players.
