Different Leagues have different Studio Hardware and Tech, as our studios were built and upgraded at different times. This means that we have, across our studios, a number of different graphics systems. (It's actually really interesting, because different countries have different TV Broadcast "metas" where hardware that is super common in one country is not particularly common in another!)

However, we agree— and are working to get to a place of common operations. Our studios have become a lot more standardised in the past few years, and we are continuously getting better at developing things together from what I've witnessed across the past five years I've been here at Riot. (Though, admittedly I can't share much about this collaboration, because I'm not sure how comfortable other broadcasts may be with me sharing more!)

Hey there! I'm John Depa, the Executive Producer of the LEC!

Was lurking around Reddit and saw this post. I have experience with this— so I can definitely chime in! Ahaha.

I'll start with why things go wrong. Super TL;DR - A lot of reasons that are not related to the game, and it's getting better with time!

We've been talking about building an improved HUD since 2018. For a few years, we utilised a graphics system called Viz Trio (which we use for most of our other show graphics) to design and render our HUD over the game, but we found that it was ultimately too limiting for what we envisioned for a great HUD display for our game. And so, after awhile, we decided to simply build a new tool from the ground up to run our HUD. We test this tool regularly whenever we roll out new features, but ultimately, because we're building it ourselves, we don't benefit from the sheer amount of user testing that larger graphics systems benefit from. This is what ended up ...

We noticed that, too. Our champion select graphic pulls the images from Data Dragon, normally, which keeps them up to date. We'll investigate why Old Fiddle is haunting our graphics package.

Found the issue, flagged with the team. Looks like some case sensitivity related things.

Thanks. It took me just under 1.5 hours. 😅

We’re reviewed the tapes. It seems that Astralis was able to roll underneath the knife, and barely avoid the Stabby.

After the small gag that the casters had in game one, it was a fun callback to have this graphic prepped for when Malrang did take the camp.

Thanks for the kind words, glad you’re appreciating the small moments of fun that we have on the show.

As you can see, we're dealing with some tech issues currently on the LEC!

These are related to our short-notice transition back to remote play, and unfortunately compounded by us missing some crew positions today also to illness.

Thanks for your patience!

Yeah, our normal graphic worked in rehearsals today but it isn’t retrieving data currently.

We’ve had a backup overlay like this for the past few years on standby in case something like this ever happened, and today’s the first day we’ve had to dust it off.

Hey there!

These will return in future weeks. The code which powered LEC’s champion selects and post game graphs needed to be rewritten in the off-season, and we prioritized champ select.

We hope to have it back soon.

Hey all! As part of our tech checks, we discovered that during yesterday’s show, the sync between caster commentary and gameplay drifted a bit. We’ve made adjustments and will continue to monitor closely.

Separate from this issue, but related: sometimes YouTube sync can drift a bit on its own, which is resolved by refreshing the player/page.

And nice to finally see you/them again at the end of the broadcast, missed that ;). Hope to see more of you in 2023!

(u/EUTriaged, get that cable fixed!)

And Odo winning a split might be the best LEC moment yet due to all the buildup. GZ Odo ;).

Triaging it!

Hi all,

Unfortunately we are not sure why the Warm Up content marathon has been deteriorating in the way it did. We're calling it here so we can focus on the proper show, which is unaffected by the issues that impacted the Warm Up.

We're back for RDYCHK in a minute!

Anyway, here is a preemptive wave at the lovely people in the production room:

o/ Hi there! Lead Broadcast Producer of the LEC here. This was brought up in our Discord a few weeks ago and I gave a more detailed technical answer there, but a suuuuper quick TL;DR is... we want this too! But right now we are choosing not to, as it would mean giving up some other things with our in-game coverage.

While our show is live-switched using a Production Switcher, our in-game is entirely directed by our observers! For this, observers have a shotbox that triggers macros that pull up pre-saved scenes/configurations on the switcher. However, we use a different Production Switcher to the LCS, a Ross Acuity, and a unique limitation of this switcher is that all of our in-game macros and scenes require a physical button to save themselves to on the switcher itself. The only thing is... we're outta buttons! This means we would have to give up another saved macro for our observers (such as the base-race view) which we don't want to do at this time.

We're talking a...
