Hi guys, we are aware of the bug and are looking into it. Dan actually posted a response in the PTR forums:

Hi, please refer to the sticky post at the top of the page. In short, you’ll want to copy out the contents of your scripts into a text file, then paste them in once the patch goes live.

Unlike our last PTR, we will not be copying over codes once this PTR concludes. Apologies for the inconvenience, but keep in mind that you can now copy out your Workshop script to text, so consider storing them locally on your machine.

Once our next patch goes live, you can simply paste in your text into the Workshop editor to recover the work you’ve done.

Per hero and per game mode settings cannot be saved this way, so you will have to re-apply those by hand.

Codes created on the live build were not copied into this PTR, and codes from this PTR will not be copied back to Live.

Sorry for the pain, but once this patch goes live, the text based copy/paste can be used to migrate your work .

Could you make sure that you don’t have any UGC restrictions on your account?

Also, are you using a sub account by chance?

We have more improvements coming later (in a future patch), so the current build that is live is very similar to what was on PTR. In the future, having a change-log sounds like a great idea!

Hang tight!

Please remember that you are limited to 5 codes per hour (to prevent abuse). You can generate more codes after that.

Hi, this already exists. Please check under the Controls section and look for ‘Restart Custom Game’.

Hi guys, we’re going to be winding down PTR soon. If you haven’t already done so, make sure to generate codes for work that you want to have carried over once PTR shuts down. You have this weekend to do so, but no guarantees after that!

We also just wanted to say thank you so much for all of your game modes, aim trainers, hero abilities and everything else that you guys have made in the workshop! We’ve been blown away by the positive reception, and we can’t wait to continue to improve the workshop moving forward.

Thanks for finding this bug! It definitely should be warning you in chat still. We’re looking into it.

Hi there, thanks in part to your report we looked into the performance of large Workshop projects.

We went ahead and made some improvements that you will see in the next patch. Saving, uploading, generating links, editing, and running “large” projects should be a better experience overall, even with bad internet speeds.

In the last patch we also found and fixed an issue where saving presets that had errors in them would actually just overwrite the preset but not save any scripting that was in there.

Thanks again for your feedback!

Hi guys, while we don’t have privacy options in the Workshop right now, we are open to the idea of supporting it in the future. We don’t know what this would look like exactly, but there are good points being made here that are worth looking into.

Thanks for your feedback, and thank you for working with us on improving the Workshop.

Hi Andy, apologies for all the lost work you had encountered. We’re looking into this. The expectation is that your existing presets shouldn’t be affected in case of intermittent connection problems (obviously this isn’t true right now).

We’ve found other bugs related to saving presets, so your experience is helping to make sure that others don’t run into the same problem when we actually ship the Workshop.

Wow, this is a lot of great feedback, please keep it coming! Dan and I are overwhelmed with the amount of enthusiasm for the feature, and we hope we can keep working with the community to make the Workshop a great tool for everyone.

As the requests here range from small to large, we’ll need some time to organize and prioritize the work. We’re currently working on improving stability and adding a few improvements. For instance in the next patch we’ve disabled the AFK timer when you’re in a custom game that has workshop scripting in it.

Obviously we can’t add everything on the list, so thank you for patience while we figure things out!

Apologies for the lost work, I know how frustrating it can be to have to implement everything a second time. We’re working on stabilizing the workshop so this kind of thing doesn’t happen in the future.

An autosave/recovery option is a really good idea, we had discussed something similar ourselves, as sometimes we also forget to save the scripts as a preset. Until then, I recommend saving early and saving often!

So this should be going out in the next patch on PTR, so please keep an eye on it. Keep in mind that we just patched in “Hero Gauntlet” on PTR, which won’t have this fix in it yet.

Post

Hi everyone!

It has been so amazing to see the awesome, creative game modes that have come out of the Workshop since we released it yesterday. For a while, we’ve been using Workshop to create a game mode called “Hero Gauntlet”, where you play through a set list of heroes in a deathmatch environment and the first player to get through the list of heroes wins. We noticed quite a few of you are making something similar, so we’re releasing Hero Gauntlet as both a preset and an Arcade card. We hope that you can use this as a base to build off for your own game modes. This mode also showcases some things you might want to use in your own scripts, like preloading heroes, which makes games load faster on all hardware.

We really hope you enjoy this game mode!

We don’t let you enter custom strings yourself, but there are quite a few strings that you can combine to get you close.

If you have any suggestions on strings you think would be useful to yourself and others, please share them! We can definitely add more strings to the list we already have.

If you want to explain the rules to players of your game, there is a new “Description” field you can put your specific instructions in. Just look on the right side of the settings page inside Custom Game.

We agree. We’ll look into removing the AFK timeout when you’re in a game that has workshop scripting in it.
