The South African Reconnaissance Car (SARC) commonly known in Commonwealth service as the Marmon-Herrington were a series of armoured cars developed in South Africa during WWII and widely used by many nations even after the war. For 20mm armour-piercing ammunition on ground vehicles, the parameters of the expansion cone of secondary fragments have been fixed. Earlier, this ammunition gave a cone of expansion of fragments corresponding to the armour-piercing shells of larger calibres. After correction, secondary fragments hit targets behind the armour in a narrow cone along the trajectory of the ammunition flight, damage of fragments more closely matches the energy of the projectile.
