I know branthium is naturally found near black holes. And I know that even after its discovery, the Project Iris Group was struggling to refine it so they created Pathfinder to operate the refinery.

However, was the branthium the Group had obtained from black holes or did they synthetically obtained it?

The only branthium was taken from the black hole, as seen in the Horizon lore trailer. It just took about 12 years to figure out how to refine it to use it as an energy source (I like to think it would have taken much less time if they had Horizon helping them out...)

  • What year was Fuse born in? His intro quip says 2681 but the website says he's 54 in 2734.

  • Fuse's nickname is Wally and that's also the name of his mortar. Did he name his weapon after himself, and does it ever get confusing when Maggie says Wally with Wally around?

Sometimes math isn't a writer's strong suit ;) He is indeed 54, so 2680 is his birth year.

Technically Walter "Fuse" Fitzroy is Walter Jr.. His mortar "Wally" is named after his dad who was always compared to a wallaby (hence the image on the side) for his scrappy nature.

Yep!

For u/RV-AmandaD

What legend/story draws from you and your life?

Also, thanks for making such memorable characters that push the boundaries in the video game industry.

Horizon's backstory and personality were ultimately created by Sam Gill, but the part I got to develop was making sure her connection to her son and her representation as a mother--especially a working mother--felt authentic. I channeled a lot of my own persistent fears of ever not being around to protect my son, especially with all the stresses of the past couple years. I also drew from what is probably the strongest emotion I've ever felt: my love for my son and my desire to move heaven and earth to give him a good life. Horizon's unflappable optimism and almost superhuman ability to surpass every seemingly insurmountable obstacle to make her son happy and safe is an inspiration and a mindset I happily inhabited in 2020.

I have a few lore related questions about my two favourite characters for u/RV-AmandaD that I hope can be answered! In no particular order:

• How far past Wattson’s face does her scar extend? Lots of artists draw it down her arm and I’m curious as to what’s accurate.

• In a similar vein to the above question, does Wraith have implants on her body in the locations that correspond with the nodes on her suit? Also does she have a tattoo/mark of some kind that correlates to her test subject number 61137? Again, this is something many artists draw so I’m curious.

• Will poor Wraith catch a break any time soon? :(

• If you can answer this one without obviously spoiling anything, will we ever have any clarification on how the Voices from the Void work? Does Wraith hear a hum of voices at all times or is it only when she is in potentially dangerous situations?

• Can we expect any lore development for Wattson that isn’t...

This isn't a fun answer, but I don't think I can answer any of these without spoiling future reveals, especially things we'd like to explore through skins.

The one I can answer is that Wraith always hears the voices, but has found a way to tune them out over time when needed.

It's a shooter video game not a soap opera.

All I'm hearing is give us more gay stuff for Apex!

Can you share any interesting and juicy Rampart rare fun facts that we might have missed? Or something you know that we don't without losing your job haha

I think you should tune into this season if you're interested in some Rampart tidbits... ;)

@u/RV-AmandaD I’d love to hear lore-wise how Ash was decided to be brought to Apex. Was her backstory as human already planned before Apex? At what point was Horizon incorporated into this (especially if Horizon was, at least at some point, supposed to be more of an evil character compared to what she is now)? I realize Ash and Horizon’s story is still unfinished but I’d love to know as much about what went into the development of these two characters as possible. Thank you!

What do you mean? Horizon and Ash have some sort of ties? Maybe we should explore this more in the future...

Thoughts on an end game encyclopedia to keep track of the story? I follow things fairly closely and I just saw yesterday something about Gibby being married that I had no idea about.

This is definitely something we want as well. It's hard to track all our bits of lore, especially with a live service game that keeps going. All I can say is something is in the works...

Are your plans when it comes to storytelling this season and in the future as you've stated you are going to take a break from comics does that mean we will be getting back playables

Playable quests are really hard to do each season without burning out the team. It's an enormous amount of work to make quests every three months. We're definitely not stepping away from lore in our game though--we have some ideas, including some future seasonal work, that will potentially bring even more lore than what the in-game comics offered.

What storytelling plans do you guys have now that comics are gone?

Can't say specifics yet, but we're currently looking at other ways to tell story in the game, as well as continuing to drop lore on social from time to time.

We didn't really take inspiration from Black Panther, but we are definitely flattered that those comparisons are being made!

When do you think the lore this season is going to happen? I'm super excited for it, and can't wait to see how you guys do it!

Lore will be released throughout the season in the game and on social with a bit more heavy weighting in the latter half...

What kind of stuff are you excited to see?

I love hearing Fuse talk - an Aussie accent is such a great addition, and the past few seasons have brought great diversity to this game.

How do you choose which accents/languages a future character will have? Does that start with their kit, VAs you want to hire, staff backgrounds, etc.?

Thanks! We love hearing Fuse talk too. :) With our Legends, we often let the fantasy of their kits speak to us about who the character is and then we continue to shape them from there, including their background. Once we have a solid character in place, we do casting calls and only hire VAs of that background and engage them to offer ideas during recordings sessions. We also often hire an authenticity editor to do a pass through our written dialogue before recording.

How far ahead do you plan the lore for?

We have long term lore ideas for our Legends that may take a year or so to come to fruition and we also come up with lore ideas at the last minute. The writing team is constantly brainstorming and looking for opportunities to develop our legends and worlds, and just looking for the right times to bring those details in.

I love the lore behind Apex and how this has been introduced into the game through custom ping/location interactions between the legends. Are there plans to add to these in future seasons? It would be great to see more custom interactions between the OG legends (like Mirage & Wraith!) as it seems (understandably) the newer legends have been the focus for a lot of these since they were introduced.

As for 'out-of-game' lore, are there any plans to expand on the Apex Universe? The Season trailers and SFtO are so wonderfully done, it would be a dream to see a Netflix series someday! Or perhaps more books like Pathfinder's Quest?

Mostly I just want to say thank you to everyone involved and huge congrats on 2 years and this exciting new season. I can't imagine how hard it must be working on a live service game in a global lockdown but you guys have really knocked it out of the park. Here's to many more years of Apex!

We still give a lot of love to our OG characters in our custom dialogue interactions each season. New Legends tend to get a bit more so we can help establish relationships with them and our other Legends. And thank you!

how long on average does it take to write a legends backstory

The backbone of a legend's backstory is usually developed over a few months once their kit is in a good place and their fantasy is established. However, we continue to develop a legend's story as we bring the character to polish and ideas come up--from writers and other devs. Also, as seasons pass and new stories and characters get introduced, we continue to develop our legend's stories as we see exciting opportunities to involve and develop them.

The book has only been out for a few days and you're already looking for more?? Jkjk. We're not closed off to the idea of other printed content in the future, but we're focusing a lot right now on bringing lore content to the game.

Hey, where in the timeline does the Quest of Pathfinder book take place lore wise? At what point of the story, we know from the in-game quests, does Pathfinders interviews with the Legends happen?

It happens a couple weeks before Season 8 begins.
