the way we think about melee weapons is through what we call archetypes. different weapons follow different preset structures. so while its true this does have the same animation as say Oni or Magepunk claw, the same is true for other Premium skinlines like Reaver, RGX2, or Prelude to Chaos

the hope in these cases is that despite the animations being the same, the addition of things like VFX/SFX can do a good amount of lifting in terms of making the weapon feel unique. Something id say that does this well is Chronovoid, where its quite literally the same animations as Araxys, but it "feels" different.

additionally - we definitely do want to make new archetypes! and we are working on some new exciting ones, its just that we need to pick and choose where that effort goes. Last year we saw the Xenohunter "CQC" set, the Cryostasis "hammer" set, and some dual wielding with Sarmad. There will definitely be more new and exciting sets coming in 2023!!

It is true! :D Conor did an amazing job on both Pig and Pink gun!

Happy accidents like this are also how we ended up with glitchpop. A different artist back in 2019 misread the word "magepunk" for "megapunk."

If you want us users/influencers to open a constructive criticism about the skinlines the least you could do is provide us some truth regarding the process. The entire post is centred around the fact that they need to release skins every 15 days (with exception of course). A limitation set by none other than themselves (The collective themselves)

Nobody is asking you to hire more people. We also don't want your team to overwork themselves to hell and loose all their creative juice. We ( Again the collective we) want good skins and valorant has provided that to us more often than not.

Now weather or not you can extend the timeline is based on your business model. Again I highly doubt people will stop playing valo if we don't get skin as often (they have been patiently waiting for 2 years for a DM change lol) but what frust...

Marketing had nothing to do with this post. They didn’t read it beforehand or even know I was doing it. I 100% agree that there should be more shared about how skins (and games as a whole) get made so that the community and players can understand a bit more about what goes on behind the scenes

Very cool! What paints did you use and for the gold did you free hand it or mask it out with tape or something?

Most (if not all) of our content undergoes flash testing to make sure that effects in the game won’t have any triggers. Granted it’s a generic test and may not account for all cases and responses, so definitely check with your doctor. It’s something we do care about though and try to make sure all of the things we make won’t cause any reaction.

It’s an issue with low settings for sure. We have control to adjust for low specifically and we can look into it!

The model file for it is about 95cm.

This is intentional. As you shoot, the parts separate and go back together when you reload. During development it was way more extreme and we felt that it being too noticeable might be a gameplay advantage to be able to tell your ammo count just by the look of the gun so we toned it down significantly

I joked once with Preeti that we could easily make the shorty more viable by giving it a 3rd barrel/shot - but then we’d need to redo the skins we already made

Not really. In most cases we start working on a 1.1 or 2.0 set before the 1.0 even releases. It just depends on what we think may have potential to be pushed further or just needs more. Glitchpop for example we knew was a good thematic but didn’t have good guns. We have to balance out making new stuff vs just revisiting old ideas

So you’re saying we shouldn’t just keep the ultra stretched cards in wide format?
