Hi,

I have been unable to play Assassin's Creed Valhalla since last week.
What I do is like usual, i launch the game from Uplay app.
Once I pass the main menu of the game, my Xbox controller, mouse and controller keyboard stop working.
I can only move the mouse but nothing happens when i click anywhere.

I already tried a lot of things:

  • PC reboot
  • tried different mouse and keyboard (even after reboot)
  • cleaned the game's cache completely
  • tried to tweak the settings in the ACValhalla.ini file for the "input" values
  • reinstall completely the game

So i'm out of ideas since i did not found any solution on the web nor the Ubisoft forums.
Thanks in advance for your help.

@elsafiro Thanks for letting us know about this issue you're having with mouse and keyboard in this game. I'm sorry to see that you're still having this trouble despite your efforts. A number of different things can affect the mouse/keyboard setup to go awry, and I'd like to rule out a few things first. To begin, please run through our basic troubleshooting steps to ensure there's no basic background issue that could be causing this. If you've tried a specific step already, feel free to skip it. Should the issue continue, please check the below information.

  1. Is the game and Ubisoft Connect installed on the same drive together? If not, we recommend this as this is the most ideal situation for the game. Preferably, the game and app should be installed on the same drive as Windows if possible.
  2. Please try disabling any background applications to check if there is any conflicting software. During this, please disable any unnecessary overlays as a test to ensure none of those are interfering.
  3. Could you provide a video showing your mouse and keyboard being unusable following the main menu in the game? This would be quite helpful in our investigation. You can upload the video to either YouTube or Twitter and post the link here.

If you have other questions and/or further details to add about the situation, please do not hesitate to put those details here. I appreciate your time in reporting this issue up!

Hey @elsafiro !

Thanks for the really comprehensive replay, gives a clear idea of what you've tried already.

To get some of the more "basic but easily overlooked" possible issues, I'd recommend shutting down both the game and Ubisoft Connect, completely deleting the ACValhalla.ini file, then start Ubisoft Connect again with Admin rights and start the game.

This will create a new file, and in many cases it has fixed similar issues. Initially, keep the Xbox Controller disconnected to see if Mouse & Keyboard works initially. Then connect your Xbox Controller (wired connection, wireless is not fully supported) and see if that works as well.

Hey @elsafiro !

Thanks for the update. Sorry to hear that didn't lead to a solution.

As a next step, I'd recommend disconnecting any USB devices that aren't required for the game (USB Hubs, headsets, the controller) to see if controls are possible just with mouse and keyboard initially. If that makes a change, we can proceed by process of elimination to see if it's a device that's causing it.

It would also be useful to check the folder where ACValhalla.ini is located to see if it's Read-Only. Sometimes Windows will set those files to this, and that can cause certain settings to be "stuck".

If the issue persists after that, I'd recommend reaching out to our Support via our Help website with your Msinfo and Dxdiag files, so we can look at the configuration for the possible cause.
