Unlocking Strongholds

In Anthem, Strongholds are four-player adventures that you will unlock throughout the game by completing the story. Once they become available to you, you’ll need to find three other players to tackle each one. If you can’t round up three friends to join you, turn to the easy-to-use Anthem matchmaking option and join a squad.

Successfully completing a Stronghold will provide you with ample rewards, but if you want the absolute best loot, you’re going to need to increase your difficulty level. The harder the Stronghold is, the better the loot it will produce.

Stronghold Difficulty

There are six Stronghold difficulty levels in Anthem:

  • Easy
  • Normal

Using Combos

Before you’re ready to take on the more challenging experiences Anthem has to offer, you’ll want to have a very firm understanding of your javelin’s capabilities. While there’s no wrong way to use a javelin, learning how your moves can complement one another can definitely give you the edge in battle. The right combination of moves can lead to devastating combos, capable of quickly, and reliably taking down some of the more challenging enemies that stand in your way.

There are the key elements to understand about performing combos:

  • First, you’ll need a primer (typically elemental moves that inflict some sort of status on the enemy – fire, ice, electric, or acid)
  • Second, comes the detonator (the triggering mechanism for releasing a combo). Note that the ...

You may feel like you know your way around the world of Anthem by foot, but you’ll soon realize that you can pass through the same areas at different altitudes and find new items – as well as new beasts. The key to unlocking the world’s numerous layers comes only from the powerful javelins Freelancers use to venture outside the walls of Fort Tarsis.

Each javelin boasts unique movements and abilities, so it requires a specific mastery of javelin traversal not only to navigate the world but to also emerge triumphant during battle.

Greetings to our Anthem Community!

I’m thrilled to share that our public demo weekend exceeded our expectations. Operationally, things were super smooth – our war rooms were tranquil this weekend, which is exactly how we like them.

Most importantly, your response was again overwhelmingly positive. We had more than 40M hours of play in the game across our two demo weekends. That’s incredible! We hope you all enjoyed the small taste of what’s to come with the full game. As developers, we remain humbled by your positive response to what we’ve built. Thank you so much for your support!

Of the many cool things we’ve seen from the community, the creativity around Javelin customizations has been mind-blowing. So many favorites, but here are several that caught our eyes:

Anthem is designed to be a living, changing world, so that your experience constantly evolves over time.  What you’ll play at launch involves a substantial storyline, but the end of that story is really just the beginning of the ongoing adventures you’ll have in Anthem.

We will be continuously supporting Anthem with new content, features, and quality-of-life fixes.  Those will be delivered through a series of updates called “Acts”, which advance Anthem’s storylines through new locations, gameplay features, character interactions, and more.

Act 1 begins in March, and will culminate in a Cataclysm – a world-changing, time-limited event that comes with extreme weather, dangerous new enemies, and new mysteries to solve. What will happen in future Acts? We can’t wait for you to find out!

Check out the second video in our gameplay series to learn more about what you can expect in the ongoing world of Anthem.

It’s finally time to get hands on with Anthem. The Anthem Open Demo runs from February 1-3, 2019, and it’s your chance to jump into a javelin and explore the beauty and chaos of the world you’ve heard so much about. Progress from the VIP Demo carries over to the Open Demo, so players who joined the VIP Demo will get to jump in right where they left off – with all four of their javelins in the forge.

Take a second to check out these four things you can expect from the Anthem Open Demo.

1. Visiting Fort Tarsis

The Open Demo starts in Fort Tarsis, the walled city that you call home in Anthem. It’s your hub for everything you’ll need between missions -- it’s also a space where you are protected from dangerous forces that torment the outside world. In Tarsis, you can visit the Forge and customize your javelin with loot you pick up on missions, or head to other locations in the fort – like the Enclave, the Bar, or the Arcanist Lab. This will be where you ...

Hello Anthem Community!

Thanks for being here!

We’re hard at work to be ready for our public demo weekend, starting tomorrow, 2/1. This week has been focused on improving the player experience in the demo – that focus was based on our learnings and your feedback. For those of you that played last weekend, you should see significant improvement in multiple areas over last week.

While we are confident that these changes will improve this weekend’s experience for players, we’re also cognizant that we may see recurring and new issues. Our team will again be working around the clock to deal with any problems that arise so that all players can enjoy the game.  As always, you can use Answers HQ for help.

Our ongoing scale testing this week has gone well. We’re con...

Hi, again!

It was an eventful VIP Demo weekend for BioWare. As I shared on Saturday, it started rocky, but we stabilized that afternoon and maintained it until we turned servers off Sunday evening. We learned a ton about our game, our service, and you, our community. We’re working hard to ensure everyone can enjoy the game exactly as we’ve designed it.

I’m particularly proud to be part of our amazing team across Austin and Edmonton. Their dedication and passion showed this weekend. Our war rooms in both locations were hot-beds of activity 24x7 all 3 days. We had fantastic support from EA and our partners.

Yesterday was rocky. The first day of our VIP demo weekend did not go exactly as we planned, and I want to share what happened.

We’ve been testing the entire game and platform for several months, but there were a few things we missed; real-world play frequently leads to unexpected issues. Before I share details on this and what we’re still facing, I want to dispel one comment we’ve seen: that we under-planned for server capacity. To ensure stability, we intended to manage our servers to match the player population as it grew. Overall, we had excess capacity prepared for population increases, and continue to do so. That said, what’s important is that all parts of the game work as designed to meet players’ needs, and that did not happen in the opening hours.

While there are a number of issues we dealt with yesterday, the three primary areas were:

  1. Platform connections – this was caused by the spike in players entering the game when we opened...

As you continue to fight through missions, the threats outside of Fort Tarsis continue to mount. Facing a Stronghold will take every shred of courage and skill that a group of Freelancers can muster, but the rewards waiting at the end can make these brave lancers more powerful than ever before.

NOTE: This game is still under development so some of the game features may change before launch.

The Stronghold

A Stronghold is a particularly difficult area that you and your teammates will need to delve down into, clearing out enemies and completing objectives to progress all the way to a climactic final battle. Once you’ve cleared the Stronghold, you can return to Fort Tarsis and collect the rewards you’ve picked up on your way through the Stronghold. These rewards will be plentiful, fitting spoils for your victory.
