Hey there, this is due to not updating your game installation. You should have a new patch for Update 5.0, give it a reload once you've done so and you should be good to go.

You can even apply skins to the vault weapons that havent gotten 2042 attachments yet, including sidearms. Was pleasantly surprised by that
Yep, this change allows for all Vault Weapons to receive a bit of paint, regardless of whether they have received 2042 Attachment support or not. :)
