Prior to 1996 I didn't have internet. We've played mostly competitive games in LAN, and even in 1996 LAN was a very common way to play multiplayer games (ex. Duke Nukem, Diablo, etc.).

Fun fact - CPD was short for Chicago Police Department. Since Kingpin played in a pseudo 1920's America, it just felt appropriate at that moment. Later we just called ourself (URL doesn't work anymore). We were even a registered Club in Germany.
In 2004 my "esports baby" #CPD celebrated its 5-year anniversary. We had started with a Quake engine game called Kingpin (TDM), before we entered UT (CTF), CS 1.4 and RtCW. 🥰
