Hey everybody,

We recently announced a temporary change we’ve put in place for Conan Exiles on PC affecting its availability in Steam’s Family Sharing feature. Please read the full announcement here before proceeding:

As this is a topic that is drawing a lot of attention and feedback, we’d like for you to direct all your feedback and related questions in this thread.
We’re going to merge all similar threads into this one and try to answer your questions to the best of our capacity. Please make sure your question hasn’t been answered before posting it. Please do also keep our Community Guidelines in mind when interacting within our community.
Thanks again for your feedback and understanding.

Just to clarify a few common points (FAQ of sorts):

  • This change is temporary until we implement a few tools ingame, and it will be reverted to the previous state once they’re in place.
  • We have no ETA yet on when that is going to be but as soon as we possibly can.
  • Some players provided some helpful tips in the meanwhile:
-What options are available? by @Multigun
  • There is no plans to modify decay timers to adjust for this change.
  • If the fix takes longer than anticipated, we will reevaluate accordingly.

We decided to re-enable Family Sharing for now until we can:

  • Implement the fix so family sharing can’t be abused by players we have taken action against. This will of course happen ASAP.
  • Decide how to proceed with family sharing after we implemented the code above with our different communities and their play-style in mind.

We will talk to Valve and ask them to flip the switch. We don’t know exactly when that will happen but it should be sometime today so please keep an eye out.

A few additional notes:

  • We realized, that the way in how some players used this feature, was way beyond what we had anticipated.
  • There was no malintent towards any of our different communities who play Conan Exiles.
  • There was no relation to the steam summer sales ending in regards to when we disabled this as assumed by some players.

Thank you again for your understanding and feedback

Except that the screaming and kicking part wasn’t the reason we reverted this for now.
If that was the case we would have had a lot more situations like these. Believe me when I say there are enough instances were kicking and screaming doesn’t get you want you want with us. It’s the least of the defining factors.

We are actually more thoughtful and take as many facts and details into account as we can. In this case there were many different aspects playing into the situation and all of them were taken into consideration.

I like baths. Bathing in tears is the best.

(I am joking, obviously, please don’t hate me).

Do you really believe that is true? Do you really think we’ve never listened to properly presented arguments, ever or we ignored them despite being helpful and constructive? Or less than to the ones that screamed louder? This is not a trick question as I am genuinely interested if you feel that we don’t listen or ignore constructive feedback. We constantly listen to people who give us well thought out and logical feedback. Even though it’s much less obvious to spot, that doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. Often.

It’s a very common thing to fall pray to the vocal minority that screams the loudest. Everyone doing the job we do is VERY aware of that fact and it’s our job to see if there is a value to the arguments or not.

The argument you bring up that we only took actions because people screamed at us can be used in any case. People always scream at us. Some people in this thread presented their perspective in a respectful manner. In most other threads there are also players who can contain their frustration and stay constructive while others voice their opinion in a less than ideal ways. Just because there are some of those people in a discussion does not automatically invalidate the presented arguments (it also does not make them more true or more pressing, mind).

We don’t endorse bullying or personal attacks and players are being warned for violating our forum rules for being disrespectful. Even in this thread (this happens in PMs however as in most cases the players involved understand that we WILL enforce our forum rules).

Hey everybody,

We truly appreciate the feedback you’ve shared with us over the past few days about this topic. We’ll be working on extra tools to fight back some of the uses we’re not okay with of this feature, and do it in a proper way.
As you might be aware by now, the temporary change was reverted already last week.
Since there is not much to discuss about it for the time being, we’ll proceed to unpin and close this thread as it has served its purpose.
Thanks again for your patience and support.
