Don't want them in Documents folder on my C: drive. That drive is quite small, and in addition they bloat my backups and will eventually cause an issue there, too. Game is installed on my D: drive so I think wanting my save games to be located on the same drive as my game installation is completely reasonable.
The easiest way is to use cloud saves instead of local. Is there a reason why that doesn't work for you?

There were bugs with cloud saves under 1.03 but they should be fixed now.

There is no quick and easy way to write saves elsewhere but it can be done. Essentially you need to edit the launcher-settings.json file in the Steam-CK3-launcher folder to point the gameDataPath line to where you want. AND you need to make a text file called userdir.txt containing the same path and place it in the Steam-CK3-game folder.

There's no special syntax, it's just an ordinary file path - did you look into the .json file I mentioned?

In the userdir.txt file you just put the file path itself, no need for any labels or anything.

Yes, this technique moves ALL the user files - settings, logs, caches, crash files - not just the saves.

I don't think there's any risk in doing it during a playthrough, but up to you of course.
