the only problem i have with the combat merits is that i have no rams/coins so i cant unlock half of the stuff i used to have
Menu ->Hunt Pass & Rewards -> Reward Cache -> Limited. You'll probably want to start on at least the daily rams if they're far behind Combat Merits. You can get the currency from the challenges in the quest menu or lvl 100+ on the Slayer Commission hunt pass.
It can be a little overwhelming at first but becomes intuitive pretty quickly if you jump in and just start slaying. Would recommend the "Escalation" mode as a good starting point for a returning player. Queueing the patrols will get you matched quicker if you prefer with others. (These can be unlocked at Slayer's Path VI, and XII).
The hunting grounds have some newer behemoths you may want to specifically go check out as well.
It looks like there was some small confusion so I'd just like to put this out there.
Aetherdust= Material to speed up cell crafting.
Aethersparks= Material that can be used to craft Aetherhearts or used to reforge weapons for Aetherhearts.
