setting an item to the toolbar and then removing it, if you do not have anything other than the pickaxe, leaves you unable to unequip the item until you replace it and manually switch to the pickaxe

All dyes require purple pigment to make, but dyes are unlocked when you get an inscription table and purple pigment is unlocked with the Thaumaturgy skill. In between those two you can see you need purple pigment but have no way to get it.

If you open the skills screen while riding a locomotive, you will end up not riding the locomotive but stuck inside it. Getting in and out of the locomotive gets you unstuck.
