Hi Everyone,

Overall I very much like the first iteration of the mode. I think there are some good things and I think there are some things that need tweaking. So let’s start with the things I think are good. TDM is good for new players to quickly learn the movement and weapons of Hyper scape. It offers fast play with little downtime and an overall more arena fps experience, on top of that it gives new players the classic arena-style feeling while playing with your friends, something I haven’t had in a while. So thank you for bringing back the vibes I had as a teenager playing quake 3 with my friends.

So obviously it is a BETA LTM and there will be changes, here are the ones I would suggest.

  • The 2 color team system is good. Just always make your team BLUE and the enemy team RED (orangey). I’ve noticed new players trying to shoot me because I have an orange pentagon above my head instead of a blue one. Just some food for thought.
  • The loot pool is quite diluted. IF it’s possible perhaps clean it up and set it to 2 items per. also try to mirror the said loot spawns on either side of the map. That way you will remove item camping and promote map control instead.
  • A visual or audio cue once the match has actually Started like the sound of a buzzer or GOOD LUCK flashing on your screen will help indicate that the match has started.
  • I would like to see the Team overlay menu (tab) should show a few more bits of information. Like the pings of each player and perhaps a k/d. As well as Damage Done and
    Damage taken.
  • The option to que as 6 instead of 2 groups of 3. It would be nice to be able to set up scrims ect. And to do so properly it would be needed to be able to Que as a team of 6.
  • Standard loot placement on each map. As it stands now with the current random loot per game setup. During the warmup, It’s possible to go around marking loot to pick up once you spawn in. Also, it’s possible to drop the weapon you pick up during warmup and pick it up once the game starts. So for instance, if you collect enough riots to have a gold one and drop it in the warmup I can have a gold riot off the spawn once the game start.
  • Please add more spawn points. As it stands now it’s quite easy to force spawn people in areas of the map. I won’t explain how to but I’m quite sure the devs are aware of this. I feel like adding more spawn points it will help in the short term of preventing spawn farming
  • Please add a penalty for leaving the match. as well as once one team is empty that the server then ends the match. As it stands now if an entire team leaves you're stuck on the server for the duration of the match until it concludes.

I feel like with these minor changes it would help tremendously already with the playability of the mode. Perhaps add in a ladder of sorts to the game to help promote Ladder grinding. (something for later) All in all, I would like to commend Eric Pope for a great first draft of the TDM mode. As a vet of 2 decades, I can honestly say it’s well-executed. I can't wait to see what changes they do.

Kindly, sev1

Hey Sev! Thanks for taking the time to write out your suggestions.

The 2 color team system is good. Just always make your team BLUE and the enemy team RED (orangey). I’ve noticed new players trying to shoot me because I have an orange pentagon above my head instead of a blue one. Just some food for thought.

This is the first I've had someone bring this up actually. I think this may be a small detail to flag to the team in terms of the comfort of the mode.

The loot pool is quite diluted. IF it’s possible perhaps clean it up and set it to 2 items per. also try to mirror the said loot spawns on either side of the map. That way you will remove item camping and promote map control instead.

One of my concerns with set weapon spawns was item camping, but this feels like a nice approach to help prevent that from happening as much. Regarding diluting the pool, one of the purposes for TDM was to help players test out weapons/hacks in the game and have that knowledge transfer to the main game. Eliminating certain ones would lessen their exposure and give them a bit of confusion when transitioning to the BR mode. Some players also want to run a specific loadout because they enjoy it, and it would be rough to not be able to do so since their weapon or hack isn't available.

A visual or audio cue once the match has actually Started like the sound of a buzzer or GOOD LUCK flashing on your screen will help indicate that the match has started.

I think some sort of cue indicating the match has started would be good to have as well! It's currently a silent transition once warmup is over which feels kind of awkward.

I would like to see the Team overlay menu (tab) should show a few more bits of information. Like the pings of each player and perhaps a k/d. As well as Damage Done and Damage taken.

I think adding more information to the scoreboard would be a nice touch as well! I personally love looking at stats. I think having the scoreboard with that information at the end of the match would also be nice to have to reflect on how well you performed.

The option to que as 6 instead of 2 groups of 3.

Personally, I am not really sure if this may be possible, depending on technical limitations. I've also seen some discussions from players to have it limit to Solo or Duo instead to prevent intense pub stomping. I think this could be explored at least to see if it is possible in the first place.

Standard loot placement on each map.

I have flagged the fact you can pre-collect weapons during the Warmup mode to the team to have it looked into. This can cause quite a jumpstart in certain matches which is not necessarily fair.

Please add more spawn points. As it stands now it’s quite easy to force spawn people in areas of the map.

I've definitely seen discussions for spawns stacking on top of each other while a match is in progress. This feels like it may be a specific issue to the Foundry version of the map given the layout. I'm sure the team will revisit these spots! I also like the idea of adding an invulnerability period upon respawning to prevent spawn farming.

Please add a penalty for leaving the match. as well as once one team is empty that the server then ends the match. As it stands now if an entire team leaves you're stuck on the server for the duration of the match until it concludes.

The issue where the match does not end if the entire team DCs has been reported! Here's the bug report for that. I've also reported the fact the scoreboard does not update properly if a player has left the match. As for an abandonment penalty, I'm not sure if this is something the team may want to add as the mode is supposed to be casual. I think if a system was implemented for backfilling when this happens, it could help alleviate the frustration of leavers.

Thanks again for your feedback!
