I’ve wanted to create a bunch of tips and tricks for a while now but such is Dad life I’ve struggled to find the time, but below is a comprehensive list that could potentially improve your gameplay, I have broken the tips down into categories: L- Loadout, H - Hacks, G - Gameplay/Lifestyle Improvements, M - Movement, E - Excercise (“lesson’s” to try in-game), S - Settings)
Personally, I do not get satisfaction from using splodes (komodo, sky breaker, atrax, salvo) so will not be encouraging them in these tips as I believe you will improve at a faster rate by using non-splodes.
Based on my play time, most of these tips are for solo play but I’m sure could be used in squad games too.
L - Pick a loadout that suits your aim style, do you prefer to fight up close? Then go for Pump and Harpy, if you prefer mid/long range then go for Riot, Ripper, Protocol. Alternatively, you could watch a streamer as 9/10 they will be running a loadout that wins game. Once you’ve found a combination you’re comfortable with then try and use this desired setup for your games, if you do want to change from a setup you’re comfortable with I would recommend only changing 1 weapon or hack at a time.
L - Current weapon meta involves either using harpy/riot/shotgun, current hack meta involves using teleport/armor/invis. Depending on your play style and aim style you will want to play around with what you feel comfortable with. My aim style is very flicky and reaction based which is why I tend to use a riot/harpy combo with the riot being the weapon I primarily use whereas other more consistent players have very good tracking and could utilise the harpy better than a “flick” aimer.
L - Try and re-order your hacks or weapons into the same slots each time you play. The plan here is to improve your muscle memory. For example, I like to keep my movement hacks on Q so if I pick a TP and it goes onto my secondary hack bind, I will always switch it round so it’s on my Q. To reorder hacks or weapons you need to hold G and press 1 to switch your weapons and Q to reorder your hacks.
H - You could switch out TP for shockwave or slam, but each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Slam has a very easy to read up then down mechanic whereas TP gives you a instant, straight means to either engage or disengage a fight.
H - Primarily, most players should aim to get a movement hack (Slam, shockwave, but preferably TP) and a defensive hack (armor, invis)
H - Slam: When you are landing after you slam, try to instant crouch slide so that you are not a sitting duck. This can also be done inside a building as the enemy will still receive slam damage and you can slide to escape/attack.
H - Teleport: if you’re being chased from a building, make your movement unpredictable - don’t always TP straight ahead to the next building, you can always TP back into the building you came from. Also, if you’re TP’ing out in the open, try to aim your crosshair more to the ground rather than higher up (unless you can gain an advantage doing this) as any air time could make you an easy target.
H - Shockwave: Aswell as doing significant damage, shockwave can be used to propel yourself in any direction. Aim your shockwave at the floor and once you have used it instantly jump while pressing any direction key and you will be propelled in that direction (Note: You cannot jump again while in the air so be careful) PRO TIP: This can also be used indoors as your character will slide on the ceiling in whatever direction you pressed. I won’t encourage skyboxxing as it’s unfun to play against but it’s in the game (still!).
H - Invis: Try not to slide when using invis as this sound could point out of your location. The same applies with jumping, but jumping is harder to hear. As with armor, invis can be used offensively to get up close to someone to pump/no scope the enemy.
H - Armor: mostly used defensively but if you have a particular advantage you could use it to get up close to pump/no-scope or getting ready for a harpy beam on somebody. Also, if someone is using splodes (komodo, atrax, salvo) you would want to armor until either they’ve finished their clip or you have a positional advantage.
H - Hacks I do not see having any real potential in high level play: Wall, Mine, Ball, Reveal or Heal (since they hard nerfed it).
H - Magnet: I personally do not like the play style but it can be very effective linked with a pump or protocol. Also remember you can use this to slow down people chasing you aswell as stopping people running away from you. Explosive weapons obviously compliment magnet but I would recommend trying to learn how to play with: riot, harpy, pump, protocol, ripper.
G - If you see some1 coming towards you with the melee weapon it means that it might be lethal melee (ForceElement)
G- Remember, players fall in from all four corners of the map. (WingedMuffin)
G- If you kill someone in the open or if it was a fight that took longer than normal or the zone is quite small then expect other people heard the fight and are incoming. If you cannot slide in and swoop all the loot quickly then always think of where you will run to if someone picks a fight. If I kill someone and they are further away, I’d tend to find cover and wait for my hacks and health to regen then loot the kill.
as a direct counter look for any hacks to reset your hack cds, or weapon fuses to reload your guns (does not c*ck the weapon though) and finish the fight with that advantage (Herko)
G - Turn off the auto climb feature, I found this to be more of a hindrance and lost fights due to it grabbing on to a ledge as I was falling trying to run.
G - If you are in a situation where 3 people are still alive and 1 picks up the crown, try not to waste time by killing the person WITHOUT the crown as that extra 10 seconds could be what decides a win or a loss.
G - When you damage an enemy you see their health bar for a brief moment. Use this to your advantage when fighting around buildings as you can track them through the wall and figure out which direction they might be heading.
G - Jump-pads: Jump-pad arc’s are very predictable and you can get beamed by a good player if they are chasing you or sitting on a roof top. One trick to learn is to jump a split second after going on the jump pad as it stops you going up into the air, if your opponent does not know how to cancel the jump you can essentially juke people.
G - Fighting Komodo: Try and gain a height advantage as it is a lot harder for someone to direct hit you rather than shooting by your feet. (Vile)
G - Fighting Skybreaker: Remember the further the rocket travels the more damage it will do so if you have a good close range loadout try and hug your opponent. If they have a height advantage then you need to reposition and try to get above them.
G E - Excercise! Learn how to swap out weapons and hacks quickly while on the move, this can be practiced in the training ground but can be critical ingame if you cannot afford to spend time looting. Learning to quick-swap hacks during a fight to pick up a defence hack you’re not holding could be a game changer. (Vile)
M - Crouch slide! (while sprinting press crouch) The single greatest mechanic in this game as you can do it almost instantly without needing momentum, LEARN HOW TO CROUCH SLIDE! If you want to get somewhere fast - crouch slide, if you want to juke someone mid fight - crouch slide left or right. If you want to crouch… SLIDE!
M - You have to keep moving. Movement is key, it can be used for a multitude of things like engaging and disengaging in fights to gain yourself the advantage. But it can also be used to quickly reposition in a fight to gain the advantage over the enemy player. (WingedMuffin)
M - When getting chased, try not to run in a straight line and learn how to crouch slide in a zig zag or unpredictable pattern
M - Window hopping: If someone is camping a building with splodes, try tag them and track them through the walls all while staying outside, window hopping to either change level or reposition to achieve a different angle. (Vile)
M E - Excercise!: One thing that improved my movement drastically was playing solo squads back in season 1, this forced me to engage a fight with a squad maybe kill 1 then run and reset from the other 2 before I could engage again. This was back before solo’s had a redeploy feature, so this “exercise” can be practiced a lot easier in solo’s as you’ll spend less time in the lobby. The aim of this excercise is to not necessarily win the round, but to improve your movement and give you the confidence that if you die, it won’t matter as you’re practicing. So the exercise is: engage in a fight with someone and bait them into chasing you, use the tips from “movement” to help you escape and gain either an advantage in position (roof top/building control), health advantage or even when you have your hacks recharged and ready to go.
S - Sensitivity, get comfortable with a sensitivity and stick with it, try to use a mouse sens converter if you are coming from another game. You’ll eventually win a fight by using muscle memory aim. Also be mindful if you change your FOV, your aim will feel different too so try to match your fov/sens using sens converters.
S - FPS: Try to edit your settings to ensure you have stable fps, do not be afraid to lower resolution. If you are struggling to maintain stable fps, res changes along with any type of filter settings (a.k.a sharpness, anti-aliasing etc) will help your aim feel better. Going from 1920x1080 to 1600x900 might make your game look worse but in time you get used to it, while also benefiting from no lag spikes. Also if you have a browser open, or other stuff open in the background turn that stuff off. Capping fps will give you the most CONSISTENT feel. Not the lowest possible input lag, but in the long term it is better to have a consistent feel since you build muscle memory. Capping fps will also make fps dips not as visible since the variance won't be as big. (Vile_is_dead)
S - Input lag: Can be caused by FPS or your hardware (playing on 60hz monitor for example, or your mouse). Try and find the cause and eliminate it.
S - Field of view: Crank it up! Playing on a low fov in this game is generally a bad thing as your fights are going to be from all angles as opposed to playing CS or valorant where you are generally aiming on your horizon line.
S - Crosshair: I personally do not like the current crosshairs in HS so I use RTSS to give me a constant + on my screen. The dev’s have previously said in the past that as most monitors have an option to add their own crosshair they are not going to punish people for it. RTSS is whitelisted by easy anti-cheat, valorant’s vanguard and valve. Disclaimer: This may or may not change so use at your own risk If you want this, hop onto my stream and type !crosshair
This is not an exhaustive list but most points should help improve your gameplay, drop by my discord (https://discord.gg/r6f73pvx4b) as I have a google doc that I’m constantly changing by adding new tips almost every week.
