Intro

Hi, I'm Kattzz! I'm someone who cares a lot about Hyper Scape. Maybe a little too much, actually. I think the game has a massive amount of potential, but there are several things holding it back at the moment. The good news is, that's what the Open Beta phase is all about - that sweet, sweet feedback. We can only hope the developers listen and don't run their game into the ground like that one game that rhymes with Schmapex Schmegends.

A bit of background for those who don't know me - I'm a diamond Apex player with ~1500 hours played. I was pretty active in the /r/ApexLegends subreddit for a long time, writing guides and extensive feedback posts. I care a LOT about the health of the games I play and hope that my points resonate with some people out there to bring about positive changes to a game we all enjoy.

Oh, and also I stream like every night and help people get better and stuff, but that's not that important.

Enough about me, let's talk about the good stuff in Hyper Scape first.

A Thank You

I do want to take a moment here to thank the devs for what they've created. It's one of those games that is genuinely ruining my life just a tiiiiny bit and I'm loving every minute of it. The movement has so much depth to it that people don't seem to respect upon first playing the game and it's a shame. Outplaying someone in this game is pure poetry. Things you wait 100 games to see in other BRs (sick aerial shots, sweet team coordination moments where you fight off 5 squads in a row, etc) happen literally every other game in Hyper Scape.

It's a BR without all of the fat. It's relentless, unapologetic fun and I CANNOT get enough right now.

All that being said...there are a few issues that are getting in the way of this game's goal to be Pure Digital Heroin. Let's talk about those issues!

Visibility

I think visibility is a problem in Hyper Scape. Especially for new players coming from that other BR that lets you slide around, I forget the name. In that other BR, for all its faults, there is never a question about where people are going, what items people have pinged, who's fighting/taking damage, and who's dead.

There are multiple instances where I've been fighting only to find out both of my squadmates are dead. Or times where I'm running and looting, actively paying attention to my teammates' positions and only finding out they're in a fight after their health starts dropping.

There are also some visibility issues with certain hacks, but I think the biggest offenders are heal and mine at the moment. I have literally been fighting someone and been frustrated at their health going up while I pour bullets into them only to realize halfway through that they dropped a heal and are fighting me in the heal circle. In the heat of battle it's almost impossible to notice unless you are actively looking for it. Sure you can see it sometimes but it should NEVER be a surprise.

Suggestions:

  • Make the pings more visible. Some sort of quick 'swoosh' animation from the corner of the screen to the ping's final destination would attract the eye so players can quickly identify if they need what's being pinged or not. Nothing obnoxious or intrusive, just something to notify players that an item has been pinged. Voice lines may also help here but I know that is a large cost to consider for a small QOL improvement.
  • A voice line for someone shooting an enemy or taking damage could go a long way toward alerting teammates that they are actively engaged in a fight.
  • For heal, I think a glow effect on the heal to make it a little more visible + similar effect on players actively being healed by its aura would go a long way toward knowing you're fighting a healing enemy.

Balance

Everyone's favorite topic and yea I've got some opinions here too, but honestly not that many. I think most weapons are actually in a good spot.

The general sentiment of the community right now is that explosives are a little oppressive and I have to say I agree. They are somewhat counter-able by never fighting indoors, but at the same time if I get stuck inside with someone who has explosives I should at LEAST be able to run away if I can't fight them.

Right now the knock-back effect is incredibly frustrating to deal with. I've had several deaths where I was literally stuck in a doorway trying to run because they kept knocking me away from the doorway. I think the damage is actually fine on all explosives currently.

The Mine is also really frustrating to fight as it breaks the flows of fights for a ridiculously long time and has literally no risk for the amount of reward it provides. The Mine needs to be MUCH easier to lose in a fight and be clearer as to when you are in imminent danger. In hectic fights, being trailed by a Mine is TERRIFYING. They have too much health for you to turn around and deal with it quickly and will trail you for ages. Also I believe the tracking time increases with Fusion level but there is no way to know how long the Mine on your ass will be there. Sometimes I teleport to a roof, run inside the stairwell, loop back around through a window and the Mine is STILL there. It's a little ridiculous at this point.

Suggestions:

  • The knock-back should have a cooldown. You shouldn't be able to be juggled around by some dude spamming left-click and have no way to deal with it. Yea they should be strong indoors but leaving the indoors should always be a viable counter. Giving players a window to move between knock-backs rewards skill on both sides of the fight.
  • The Mine should have less health when activated, follow for less time, and indicate more clearly how much longer it will be following you

Other Random Thoughts

  • Would be cool to have a little yellow outline or glow on weapons/hacks that we already have to clearly indicate potential Fusion opportunities
  • Duos seem like they'd be ridiculously fun
  • Aim-Assist is a little gross at the moment and could definitely use some tuning, but it's not as oppressive as some people would have you believe
  • Sometimes my gun won't shoot or my ADS won't work and it's not clear why. It can feel clunky at times
  • The Reveal event is too bright
  • Passive hacks could be cool if there were enough visibility around their effects
  • Capture the Flag in this game would be incredible
  • I stream on Twitch and stuff and would love to help you improve. Come hang out sometime!

Conclusion

Okay then. This turned out to be an actual essay. Umm...sorry about that. If you made it this far, then thanks for that. If not, then why is there sentence even here? Sorry if you got here and feel like I wasted your time, hopefully I provoked a thought or two.

I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts on the game. I think it has a bright future if the devs stay as attentive as they've been throughout the process thus far. I for one welcome our new BR overlords.

Until next time,

Hey Kattzz

I've just come across your feedback thread here and just wanted to acknowledge it by showing my appreciation for the well thought out constructive criticism you've provided. You've identified issues you have, explained why you feel they are issues and provided reasonable possible solutions. It's a pleasure to read through threads like this as a Community Manager.

We read through as much as we can on here as we are super busy but I will make a point to pass this along directly to our player research team as you have touched upon some topics/ideas here that we haven't seen come up but I think they are interesting.

Thanks a million :) AJ
