These are my opinions as a PC player whose put hours on end into this game and why I find this patch outrageous.
I've stuck with HyperScape throughout every poor balancing change because I absolutely loved the game. There were two things that really hit a nerve for me. Initially, it was the unnecessary change to health regeneration. This game's attraction was its fast-paced gameplay! Changing it from 5 seconds to 15 seconds delineates from the core fundamentals that this game was advertised as. You can hardly call this game "fast-paced" anymore when it has one of the slowest health regeneration times ever. Since the buff to weapons such as the Dtap and explosives, you're consistently taking damage and consequently required to hide and wait for your health to return time after time. Then, after receiving negative feedback regarding the change from the entire community that still supports the game, they doubled down on the change in the following patch notes, stating they feel like its a great change. After CONTINUED negative feedback they tripled down on the change in the recent patch notes. There was no compromise such as a happy medium at 10 seconds. They are by no means obligated to listen to the community or make compromises but the problem was the change to the fundamental elements that make this game stand out from the others.
Now the second, and most appalling reason. With recent patch notes, they added bullet magnetism. For those that don't know bullet magnetism means that a shot can be off by (x) degrees, but it will register as a hit. This blurs the line of any skill gap and you are rewarded for performing poorly. You no longer get that euphoric feeling when you laser someone out of the sky with perfect tracking. Seeing improvements in your aim is a reward that comes overtime and is a reason for people to put in the grind. Now, you can aim like some of the top players in the world, with the most minimal effort. There are two things to master in this game; movement and aim. The game has now mastered the aim for you, which is half the grind. This sucks for player retention. With the newest patch (2.3) we can now expect the following
To maintain balance between Keyboard and Mouse (KBM) & Controller on PC, the level of aim-assist has been increased for KBM players on several weapons
On top of the already over-tuned bullet magnetism, we can now expect an increase in aim assist (AA) on KBM. To distinguish AA from bullet magnetism, AA pulls your reticle towards an enemy in order to help you aim. This is an absolute laughing stock for KBM users. We value raw mechanical skill, and this is a HUGE "no-no" in terms of competitive and overall FPS integrity. It's understandable and appropriate for controller users to be assisted with aiming, but KBM inputs should never benefit from this kind of aid. The more grind I put into this game after these changes are implemented, the more relaxed I'm going to become with my aim, and when it's time transition to other games, I will be so used to being rewarded for inaccuracy that I will perform poorly when I don't have this kind of aid. Finally, I think this sets a horrible precedent for future FPS games. Catering to casuals and practically holding their hand to this degree in FPS shooters is not a philosophy that I agree with nor do I want to support.
TLDR: Health Regeneration and Aim assist/bullet magnetism on KBM are the reasons for disliking recent patches as well as the upcoming patch.
