[2020] Leaving deployment pod early?

I saw someone exit a pod as soon as we deployed. I heard the noise, then saw someone fall near me. Is it actually possible to leave sooner than when you're about to hit the ground? If so, how do you do it? I know you can speed up by pressing the forward movement key, but that doesn't answer how this happened.

Tried looking around but couldn't find any answers so thought I would ask here. Thanks!
