Toplane players, how much of a difference do grubs make?

Jungle main here, trying to play for grubs but is it even worth it?

Do grubs make that much of a difference when you split push?

Do the little things that spawn make the biggest difference or is it the true damage?

Do they make most difference to take early towers or to split push late?
