The Allay will only collect items dropped on the ground - it will NOT break blocks

I came up with Allay's interaction with note-blocks as a way for it to interact with redstone. If you build your redstone-noteblock-machine right you can make really interesting item-sorter-allayification-powered machines!
@_Ulraf_ Do they only interact with the player or can you automate it with redstone? Whats the item detection radius? How will the game handle their pathfinding and is it going to cause more lag than other mobs?
The design might change but the current idea is for the Allay to have two slots: One for the "sorter" item and one for the items it collects!
That way it can also sort non-stackable items!

What if you gave the Allay an @Xilefian ? Would it keep trying to find another Felix or would it implode from an impossible search?

The Allay can collect items that match the ones it's holding in an area and drop them at the player or at a noteblock!
Imagine having an amethyst farm running and a few Allays to collect all the shards for you in one place!
@_Ulraf_ You say "item sorter" Can the allay move certain items into chests? If not, what would be the most convenient use for these creatures? Obviously there aren't naturally spawning cookies, so I'm also wondering how it collects things.
On a personal note, the Alley 🧚 is the first thing I ever designed for Minecraft back when I first joined - and I'm SUPER excited to be able to finally be able to share it with you all!

And of course it should go without saying, Allays will not search for items in unloaded chunks. We don't have stuff like that in Minecraft, we wouldn't break it with this mob 😅
And for clarification, the non-stackable rule still applies to them. But they can pick it up, just only up to 1.

Yes it would be able to pick up non-stackable items, no I don't know about the mending book scenario. We'll have to find that out if it gets voted as the winner!
@kingbdogz If you can say, will it be able to pick up non-stackable items? If so, how specific would it match items? For example, if I gave it a mending book, would it be able to pick up just mending books? This could be great at sorting items that we can't currently sort automatically.
No it will not drop the initial item you gave for them to search for. It stays until you take the item away.
@kingbdogz Will they also drop the initial block you gave them, resetting what they should collect? Can you "bind" them to a specific note so they only bring collected items to you or a note block set to that note?

They cannot get items from chests either. Only dropped items.
You could feasibly use this for item sorting if you make a cool contraption :D
Allays are not item duplicators, they pick up items nearby on the floor that are the same item it has been given.
So you could give it a dirt block, then it will find dirt blocks that are dropped, collect them, then return and drop them to you or a note block you've set up.
