Whenever i launch the game the steam launching game popup appears and it shows i'm playing it on steam. Then about 5 seconds later it says i'm not playing anything. It worked fine earlier in the day but whenever i try do it now it just does the same thing.

Has anyone any ideas on how to fix it?

Hey folks!

I have seen similar reports from other users on the forums and they have advised the game was being blocked by Bitdefender. Here's how to fix it:

-Launch Bitdefender
-Click Settings
-Click exclusions
-Click add exclusions
-Add rainbowsix.exe

If you have Bitdefender please try the above steps. If you do not have Bitdefender or the issue persists please try the following:

Run the game with ADMINISTRATOR RIGHTS.

Verify your game files.
It is possible that the installation of your game is faulty. To fix this, please verify your game files:

UPLAY
EPIC GAMES LAUNCHER
STEAM

Disable Background Applications.

Make sure your OPERATING SYSTEM is UP TO DATE.

Reinstall Uplay.

Update your GPU Drivers:

AMD
NVIDIA

Should the issues persist after completing the above steps, please GET IN TOUCH, attaching DXDIAG and MSINFO reports to your SUPPORT CASE.

Thank you.

I couldn’t find it in the settings so I just went to GeForce experience app for that. I found different games there, including siege. I thought I’d give it a go and try and launch it from there and Voila! it finally opened. I didn’t have steam or uplay running at that moment. It did crash after about 15 minutes, but everything was fine after that. I can now launch it from anywhere as normal.
I hope it helps someone. Keep trying guys, good luck.
Awesome to hear that you managed to get this working! Do you use Bitdefender?

Hello!

Checking for malware is certainly worth trying. Keep in mind however that anti-virus itself can cause issues with games, as they can be overprotective and quarantine files you need.

My recommendation would be to stick with Windows Defender as that is a very good application, and you can choose what software to trust. Installing multiple anti-virus solutions will likely cause you more issues than anything.

All the best!

What happens if you run stellaris.exe directly from File Explorer? Any Windows error show then?

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

In your Steam Library right-click on this game and choose Properties. Click on Set Launch Options, and paste this in there:
-opengl

Does the game then start from the Steam PLAY button?

As the game does not run from stellaris.exe there is no point in attempting to do anything with the launcher, it cannot be the problem.

Has this game ever worked on this machine? Or never yet?

Do HOI4 and EU4 work okay on it?

Please don't update other people's threads, your problem may or may not be from the same cause. Please start a fresh thread with full system details and problem history, thanks.
