As most of you are aware, the Realm Royale Public Test Server updated today with all or a portion of OB20. Here are my notes (please let me know if I missed anything or make corrections!) based on what I experienced as well as some insight from the Devs.

Battlepass: The Eternal Conflict Info

  • 950 Crowns to purchase
  • 50 Levels
  • Three mounts
  • Warrior Skin, Assassin Skin, and tiered Mage and Hunter skins
  • Two chicken skins (one tiered)
  • Numerous sprays, emotes, and map marker skins
  • 900 Crowns if completed

Notes: Highest quality Battlepass skins yet (three mounts!). Insane amount of value packed into this one. These skins in this Battlepass will be POPULAR!

New Neutral Ability: Skull of Chaos

  • Projectile that 'bounces' from enemy to enemy dealing moderate damage (550 Legendary, 425 Purple, 300 Green, Unsure Grey)

  • Low cooldown (~12 seconds, unsure on cooldown by rarity)

  • When the projectile collides with an object, ground, or wall, it generates an invisible 'sphere'/'radius' and determines if an enemy is inside of it. If there is an enemy inside of it, it will bounce towards them and immediately hit them. If no enemy is inside of the sphere, it will bounce somewhat randomly. Ability has a bit of an arc when tossed long range.

  • Damage decreases with each 'bounce'

  • Found in all types of chests

Notes: Definitely a fun and interesting ability. People will be frustrated that this ability doesn't need to be entirely 'aimed', but I don't think it is powerful enough to be oppressive. Definitely a fun ability that can lead to some wonky combos, but again not sure if it will be used over your class abilities. Good addition to the early game loot pool.

Proximity Trap

  • Proximity Trap now explodes on contact if thrown at an enemy

  • Time to 'trigger' when thrown behind an enemy reduced (buff)

Notes: Major buff. Hunter may be the first class where all three basic abilities are entirely viable, making for an actual strategic decision before even entering the game - awesome news! This will be very powerful with the cooldown reduction talent allowing for massive burst. This may be a viable meta option in OB20 with Arbalest, Longbow, or Crossbow with Pincushion (725 damage Prox Trap every 8 seconds?!).

Armor Potions

  • Enemies will now drop 1 Armor Potion upon death, even if they had none. If they had more than 1, they will drop the amount they were holding

  • Armor Potion drop rate has supposedly been increased

Notes: You all know how I feel about this. ONE OF THE BEST CHANGES THIS GAME HAS EVER HAD! I am not going to fully commit and say the Armor Potion economy is entirely fixed, but this is AMAZING and felt GREAT on PTS! HUGE step in the right direction!

Quality of Life/Bug Fixes

  • Window Vaulting now feels smooth as butter, didn't run into any bugged or glitched windows

  • Total Damage Indicators have been added. Shots that hit within ~0.4 seconds of each other will add up and display the total damage done so it is easier to track how much damage you've done (noticeable with Pistol, Shredder, LMG, Gatekeeper, SMG, AR, Fire Weapons)

  • Damage indicators will now show Yellow and Red equivalent to the amount of damage you've done. If enemy has 300 Armor and you deal 500 damage, two numbers will pop up (300 yellow and 200 red)

  • New Play Screen allows you to select your class BEFORE entering a game, allowing you to go AFK, grab water, whatever. Can also preview your emote, chicken skin, and access the Armory by right clicking.

Notes: More AMAZING fixes that completely change the dynamic of fights for certain weapons. You can now tell if it is a good time to push or not!

Unconfirmed/Not sure if intended:

  • Purple Axe received a 30 damage per projectile buff (810 from 780). Not sure if intended

  • Stone Staff appears to fire SLIGHTLY faster (unconfirmed).

Custom Lobbies

  • Hi Rez will be performing custom lobby STRESSTESTS tomorrow morning at 11am PST / 2pm EST. We need players to show up to help test Customs! There is still no timeline for when these will be released, but obviously a step we love to see!

Overall: THIS IS THE SUMMER OF REALM ROYALE! This is the first patch in awhile where it feels like not only did Hi-Rez/Heroic Leap include their own creative ideas and features, but also largely listened to a lot of recent community feedback (Armor Potions, indicators, etc.). First impression is that this is the best patch of the year so far. Stay tuned for updated notes as I continue to test on the PTS (still in dire need of an Axe refire rate nerf, IB/GW Mage nerf, Fire Shredder nerf, Heroic Leap scaling nerf, Blast Arrow scaling nerf)
