9s joined for the stream on Tuesday it was
11s really really fun and it's been super
13s cool seeing people playing update 8
15s finally getting out to you guys on the
17s experimental branch and now while the
19s launch was you know relatively smooth
20s there are some bugs that have been
21s reported as well as FPS issues that
23s people have been talking about as well
25s we are running into some of this stuff
26s and we are checking the QA site uh but
28s today what I want to talk about is just
30s some of the things that we've seen and
31s also provide some troubleshooting tips
33s for like yes we are looking at like the
35s things that you've reported when we're
36s investigating certain things but also
38s there's some things that you can try as
39s well and then in doing those things
41s you'll actually be helping us as well so
43s it's a symbiotic relationship here we're
45s working together team okay so hopefully
48s that'll be helpful and also at the end
49s of the video I'm going to be talking
50s about the updated Hardware requirements
52s we talked about that back in the Unreal
54s Engine 5 video a few weeks back
56s um it's the same but we're going to
58s expand on a little bit more so hopefully
60s that the requirement let's make a little
61s bit more sense or more meaningful and
63s set expectations correctly okay so if
65s you're interested in that stay to the
66s end of the video and we'll talk about
67s that then but quickly two things first
69s thing Wiki all right we got a new Wiki
72s satisfactory.wiki.gg so the people
74s who've been contributing to our Wiki and
75s making it as amazing as it was before
77s wants to move to a different platform
79s and we're just supporting them and doing
80s that okay so if you want all your Wiki
82s stuff and new update information and
84s things like that go to
86s satisfactory.wiki.gg and check out the
88s new Wiki hopefully you like it second
90s thing back up your saves okay moving on
92s so first things first you might be
93s wondering maybe you're new here you're
94s like what the hell is experimental okay
95s what is experimental Branch the
97s experimental branch is our pre-release
99s branch and that's why we release any of
101s our major changes or even not so major
102s changes first so that people who uh you
105s know are dare to fly close to the Sun uh
108s can can play the features early and test
110s things out give us feedback we can fix
112s things stabilize things and then we move
114s things over to the Early Access branch
115s and now everyone uh who owns
117s satisfactory has access to the
119s experimental Branch whether you're on
120s Epic or run Steam in Epic it's
122s accessible by simply just going to your
124s library and you'll have two versions of
126s satisfactory one will be satisfactory
127s Early Access and one will be
129s satisfactory experimental install and
131s play the experimental version and you're
132s on experimental on Steam you need to
134s find satisfactory in your library right
136s click on it go to properties go to betas
138s and then there'll be a drop down box and
139s from the drop down box you'll be able to
140s choose experimental and that's how you
142s opt into experimental switch it back to
144s the empty line to go back to the normal
146s version satisfactory but most
148s importantly is that you should back up
149s your saves because saves are not
150s compatible from like a newer version of
152s the game going back so if you run into
153s any issues and you want to revert back
155s you may not be able to load your saves
157s in the old version right in the Early
158s Access version of the game not only that
161s but sometimes Cloud saves do strange
162s things that no one can ever predict so
164s back up your saves whenever you mess
165s around with this stuff in the
166s description below there'll be a path to
167s where the save files are okay but
169s experimental as it says on the tin is
171s indeed experimental you know and
173s oftentimes there are some growing pains
174s when it comes to playing on the
176s experimental branch and this is no
179s different this week right there
180s absolutely been some issues that people
182s have run into and that they have
185s reported on our QA site QA site is
186s questions not satisfactory income.com
188s and you can let us know any bugs or
191s feedback that you have you can you can
192s put it there and just bear in mind that
194s like I'm actually recording this on
195s Thursday so you're watching this on
196s Friday this is recorded a day early and
198s whilst the team is constantly checking
200s the QA site and we're checking socials
202s and things like that as well to get an
203s understanding of like what kind of
205s experience people are having with update
206s 8. um anything could have changed
208s between
209s yesterday which is today for me Thursday
211s and Friday okay so I'm you know
213s everything I'm talking about here is
215s relevant to Thursday all right so let's
217s talk about some of the bugs that you
218s guys have reported uh
219s train tracks uh are rotated train tracks
222s that have been built with blueprints
223s that have just rotated for some random
225s reason
225s um this is a purely graphical bug they
227s actually continue to function normally
229s and uh I don't think this has been
231s patched in yet but the team will fix it
233s another bug that people have been
234s talking about have been uh the inability
236s to slide underneath belts specifically
238s Mark three four and five belts this has
240s actually been we put a patch out last
242s night actually and I believe this was
244s fixed in that patch so anyone playing as
246s of today Thursday the patch went out
248s Wednesday night
249s um this should not be a problem anymore
251s we also had people reporting missing
252s water graphically the water was missing
254s you can still swim but you couldn't see
255s the water that has also been fixed and
257s patched with last night's fix apparently
259s uh allegedly let us know uh also some
262s Collision issues in the southern Forest
264s I think with trees they had like massive
266s Collision boxes on them uh I believe
267s that has also been patched as well
269s another issue people have been reporting
270s have been let fart rocks after you
272s destroy them their gas clouds remain
274s it's like well what's the point of
275s destroying them then uh well this bug uh
277s doesn't happen for all the fart rocks it
279s happens to some of them and also that
281s gas cloud is just a visual bug so the
283s gas is visually there but you can walk
285s through it safely and uh functionally
287s within the game it's not there but we'll
289s be looking into it and there are
290s absolutely more things too I just want
291s to let you guys know that we are
292s checking the the website and the QA site
295s and uh people are working really hard to
297s fix what they can and um and then as
299s I've mentioned earlier before as well uh
301s we're gonna be patching over the next
302s couple weeks as we can but then we have
304s a vacation period so there'll be a
306s period where there'll be like no patches
307s for a while but then after that we'll
309s continue patching again so if you see
311s that nothing's been done for a few weeks
314s even though there are bugs in the game
315s it's just because it's the vacation
316s period and we will be picking it up
318s again immediately afterwards okay keep
320s your bug reports coming in and we'll go
322s we'll go through it afterwards okay now
324s there are two other issues that I
325s actually want to focus on Focus this
326s video on today because I think it's I
329s can do the most to help people in this
330s video when it comes to these two issues
332s here and those are poor FPS or
334s stuttering um constant stuttering when
336s playing the game and then also a
338s graphics card related crash and the one
340s that I'm talking about specifically is a
342s d3dutil.cpp
345s um
346s currentcube.device get device get device
348s removed reason uh that is in the error
350s message that if you get this crash
352s you'll get the crash reporter and you'll
353s see that
354s um so first of all let's talk about the
356s graphics card real quick uh first of all
357s from what we can see from our
359s information uh
360s um in in the back end from the crash
362s reports that you guys send in uh is that
364s this this crash tends to only affect or
368s seems to mostly affect uh higher end
370s cards we're talking a lot of 30 70s 30
373s 80s uh 38 tis 3080 on laptops 30 90 tis
377s and RX 6700s and the tricky thing with
380s this is
381s uh this is something that we can't
383s really do too much about at the moment
385s maybe driver updates in the future will
387s help maybe there's more things we can do
389s that and we're investigating the team
392s does have some ideas of some things but
393s for the moment I don't think there's
395s anything we can do immediately uh to
398s solve this issue and it is happening
399s happening fairly common to people who
401s have these cards unfortunately however
403s there are some things that you can do
405s and so I'm going to let you guys know so
406s you can do what you can and
408s hopefully it helps if it doesn't help
410s let us know in the QA site uh the first
411s thing is update your drivers we're using
413s general Engine 5 now this is like
414s Cutting Edge stuff so it's really
416s important that whatever graphics card
418s that you're using you are running the
419s most up-to-date Drive is that you can
420s get
422s um it's very important and it makes a
423s really really big difference and that is
425s the first step if you're having these
426s issues check your drivers make sure
428s they're up to date another thing you can
429s do is if you're using an Nvidia card you
432s can try switching to the studio ready
433s drivers instead of the game ready
436s drivers and we've actually seen that the
438s studio ready drivers for whatever reason
440s seem to not have this crash
443s uh or as often so you could try that as
445s well if you try it and you still get it
447s let us know on the QA side we would love
449s that information well we would prefer
451s you let us know that it works but if it
453s doesn't work please let us know so we
454s can so we know another thing you can try
456s and do is switch to the Vulcan Graphics
457s API so by default the game runs on the
460s DirectX 12 Graphics API but we also
462s support Vulcan so you can try and switch
463s to that but please note that if you
465s switch graphics apis and the game
467s crashes and then the game no longer
470s starts up because it tries to load the
472s graphics API that it can't support and
473s it keeps crashing there are solutions
475s for this and the two solutions are that
477s you find your game user settings dot ini
480s file and you delete it I'll put a
482s location for that file in the
483s description below and when you do that
485s the next time you start the game the
486s game will restart with default game user
489s settings basically including reverting
492s back to DirectX 12 and then you should
494s be able to start the game up another way
495s you can do this is you can actually
496s Force Graphics apis using launch
498s commands it's dash dx12 for DirectX 12.
501s it's Dash Vulcan for Vulcan and dash uh
504s dx11 for DirectX 11 uh but we're
506s deprecating dartx 11. it is technically
508s supported I'll talk about that a little
510s bit later and if you don't know how to
511s use launch commands more information
512s down below how to do that another thing
514s that we've noticed with this crash is
515s that uh sometimes if you have a stock
517s overclocked uh GPU uh then actually
520s disabling the stock overclocking can
522s help as well so if you have that
524s consider trying that uh and seeing if it
526s helps and if it does or doesn't let us
528s know the next major thing I wanted to
529s talk about is the low FPS that some
531s people are getting as well as the
532s constant stuttering that some people are
533s getting in the game and it is clear
535s based on the feedback that we've gotten
536s from people that there are some people
538s out there who are getting a lot of
540s negative effects when it comes to their
542s performance with update 8 compared to
544s update seven
545s um so what I want to do is I want to
546s talk a little bit about various video
548s settings and some solutions that you
549s might be able to do to mitigate some of
552s these issues and one so that you're more
554s aware of what options you have and what
556s you can tweak so that you can hopefully
558s get the performance that you want but
560s also number two is so that when you guys
562s let us know that you're having having
563s FPS issues it'd be great super good if
567s you can include information about like
568s what settings you have now maybe if you
571s can test again on Update 7 on the Early
573s Access Branch tell us like what settings
575s did you use there what settings did you
577s use in update 8 what different you know
579s are there any differences between those
580s settings and how that affects your your
582s FPS and the reason why this information
584s is super super
585s um useful for us is that like some
588s people are saying that they get less FPS
590s but we're not sure if your settings are
592s actually the same and this is made more
595s confusing because uh some people say
597s well I played on Ultra on Update 7 and
600s I'm playing on Ultra on update 8 and I'm
601s getting half the FPS right so it's the
604s same settings but it's not actually the
605s same settings because in update 8 there
607s are new video settings and Technologies
609s in and actually when you use ultra the
612s ultra quality preset that automatically
614s turns on TSR which is an anti-aliasing
616s technology
618s um which is like a noteworthy load on
620s your on your hardware and so if you have
622s TSR on on on update 8 and not on Update
624s 7 they're not Apples to Apples
626s comparisons so this makes it really
628s tricky for us to understand okay wait
629s people are getting less FPS but is it
632s because of everything or is it because
634s of some differences in their settings so
636s if you guys could please check really
638s closely what settings you use when you
639s give us this feedback it will help us
641s tremendously not only that we also have
643s the global illumination or Lumen as it's
645s called option in the game as well and
648s this is something that we know that some
649s people have turned on and got less
650s performance and are like hey what's
652s going on what's going on no performance
654s with that Lumen but the thing is with
656s Lumen is this is actually a setting that
658s we have said multiple times before that
660s we are not officially supporting we're
661s having it in the game so people can just
663s turn it on and play around with it maybe
665s take some screenshots or if it works for
667s you then you can play with it right but
669s we're not gonna We're Not Gonna optimize
671s for it and we're not gonna tune our
672s Lighting in the game uh for it basically
675s this is something that we're not
676s committing to but we just want to leave
677s it in the game so that you guys can just
679s play around with it having said that
680s though this information is not clear in
682s the game or wasn't in the game clear in
685s the game as of recording this video but
688s I believe that this will be updated a
689s little bit so that it's more clear that
692s um
693s that it's you know an experimental thing
694s or that we're not committing to it or
696s you're going to get low performance
697s basically uh another thing that we've
699s done is we've stripped out the Cinematic
700s quality setting for uh Global
702s illumination as well and the reason for
704s this is essentially that the quality
706s game from the highest setting previously
708s to cinematic is actually negligible but
711s the
712s um the load on the the hardware is
715s tremendous and for some people it's so
718s tremendous that it's like the menu slows
720s down so much that it's hard to turn off
722s and we think that that's just not good
725s for anyone we're just gonna get rid of
727s it for now okay okay so let's talk about
728s specific issues and specific
730s troubleshooting things you can do I'm I
732s may be repeating some things that I've
733s said before but I I want this all in one
736s one chunk if we can Okay so let's just
738s go over the troubleshooting things just
739s things you can try a little checklist if
741s you will okay if you're having issues
742s run through this part of the video okay
744s the first thing update your graphics
746s drivers make sure that is up to date
748s it's really important okay second thing
750s make sure you verify your game files
752s okay and you can do this on Epic or on
754s Steam and this basically is a process
755s that makes sure that the files that were
756s downloaded are indeed correct and
758s there's no corrupt files or anything
759s like that on Epic you just find the game
761s in your in your library there's three
762s dots underneath the banner or the
764s whatever the uh icon of the game and
767s then you can choose verify and on Steam
769s you can right click on the game in your
770s library go to properties go to local
772s files and then click verify Integrity of
774s game files so make sure you verify your
775s your game files the next thing if you're
777s getting low FPS
779s um is to disable TSR anti-aliasing and
782s use FXAA or TAA instead so pre
785s previously in Update 7 we only used TAA
787s in Update 7 but now we've added FXAA
790s which is a more efficient anti-aliasing
792s and TSR which is uh I mean it is and it
796s isn't it's a double-edged sword okay so
797s for some people it's it's gonna it's
799s gonna tank your your your stuff your
801s your FPS but for other people it
802s actually may be beneficial okay so if
805s you're um having low FPS and you're on
807s TSR anti-alicing try and turn it off try
809s to switch to the other ones and see if
810s you get anything better especially
812s especially if you're finding yourself
813s getting stuck at 2fps and the game does
816s not recover until you restart the game
818s this is usually from a vram you're
821s running out of vram and then like the
822s game right now
824s cannot recover from that for whatever
826s reason something we can look into
828s um but if that's happening if you're
830s running out of vram and you can check if
831s you're running out of vram by checking
832s your task manager and checking your GPU
835s um then I would highly recommend making
837s sure that TSR and Global elimination are
839s off just to make sure that like you're
841s giving yourself your your GPU as much
843s vram to work with as possible another
845s thing you can do to make sure that you
846s give your GPU as much vrm as possible is
848s to check to see if you have any other
850s applications open that might be taking
851s some vram because Unreal Engine 5 is so
854s vram sort of like heavy and really sort
856s of requires it any sort of like extra
858s amount that you can free up while
859s playing satisfactory will go a long way
861s for you but of course we're going to be
862s looking into what we can do as well to
864s optimize that and make that better as
866s well but there's there's some stuff you
867s can do too next thing is that if you do
869s want to use TSR anti-aliasing try and
871s run it in performance mode which is a 60
873s screen size so it it's just like an
875s upscaling thing right so if you set it
877s to 60 60 screen size this will be a more
880s performant version of it and that might
882s work a little better and then also So
884s currently at the time of recording or
886s this might have been updated actually we
888s previously had an insanity preset for
890s TSR which is essentially just the entire
892s thing and no upscaling
894s um and this is this really really
895s reduces performance we've changed I
897s think we've I think we've changed the
898s wording now
900s um so that it doesn't say Insanity
901s anymore because some people were
902s confused like does Insanity mean like
904s insane performance gains or is it insane
906s quality and low performance and we've
908s made that a little bit clearer now as
910s well so the next thing you do is you can
911s turn off Global illumination or Lumen
913s it's Global illumination uh in in the
915s video settings and this is off by
917s default but maybe you've turned it on
918s not only that there are quality settings
920s so you can try and just reduce the
921s quality and maybe that'll help or you
923s can just turn it off entirely to make
925s sure
925s um you know you're you're running as
927s lean as you can and then as I said
929s earlier it's important to note that
930s we're not officially supporting Lumen
932s okay we're just in the game for you to
933s play around with but we we will not
935s we're not committing to making it
936s performant and we're not committing to
938s tweaking the lighting of the game to
940s make sure everything looks good in Lumen
942s it's just there to have fun with if you
943s can run it the next thing you can do is
944s just switch the lower video presets in
946s general we have some like quality
948s presets for you know shadows and all
950s that kind of stuff and you can always
952s just try lower those you can also custom
954s tweak things and test stuff to see like
956s well maybe there's a specific thing that
958s if you turn that up you see a big hit
960s then you know it's like oh maybe it's
961s just the Shadows that are you know
962s screwing with me a little bit so you can
964s always you know tweak your video
965s settings as well not only that we've
967s added the foliage loading distance in
969s there as well so you've got a little bit
970s more tweakability here
972s um to try and find the the best
973s performance for you if you're running
974s into any d3d 12 crashes
977s um important things to try there is
978s update your graphics card drivers but
980s also you can try and consider running
982s Vulcan instead of DirectX 12 you can
984s either switch that in the video options
985s menu or you can force them using launch
987s commands which is dash dx12 for DirectX
989s 12 and dash Vulcan for Vulcan the launch
991s commands are also helpful to know in
993s case uh your game is crashing when
995s switching these apis and no longer opens
998s because you're on an unsupported one so
999s you can use these launch commands to get
1001s around that as an absolute Last Resort
1002s if nothing else has worked working
1004s you're still getting low performance you
1005s can also still try and use DirectX 11.
1008s now we're deprecating DirectX 11 you can
1009s no longer choose it from the video
1011s options menu but it is still technically
1013s supported and the way you can access
1014s DirectX 11 is by using the dash dx11
1018s launch command okay so you can still do
1020s that and when using DirectX 11 it will
1022s hard dis disable things like nanite and
1024s Lumen
1025s um which you know those things sort of
1027s eat into your your vram however because
1029s we're not really you know we're sort of
1031s deprecating DirectX 11 we're not really
1032s supporting it completely anymore we
1034s can't really promise decent performance
1036s or quality in general but if you've
1038s tried everything else this is a decent
1040s Last Resort you can just try out and see
1041s if it helps you okay so those are the
1043s troubleshooting things that I wanted to
1044s talk about one other thing that some
1045s people may have spotted is that there's
1046s actually a run Hardware Benchmark
1048s feature in the video options menu and
1051s the purpose of this is that you can run
1052s a benchmark it'll check your your
1054s hardware and then it'll like set the
1056s settings to something that makes sense
1057s for your Hardware so that you should get
1059s good performance however right now as it
1061s is that is actually not done and doesn't
1063s really yield any sort of meaningful
1065s results right now but the goal is to
1066s have that actually functioning correctly
1068s so that you know if you're not really
1069s sure what you should do with your
1070s settings you'll be able to just run the
1072s Benchmark and you'll hopefully be
1074s getting some settings that make some
1075s sense for your hardware and so lastly
1076s what I want to talk about here today is
1078s going to be the updated Hardware
1079s requirements as I said earlier we've
1081s talked about this in previous videos
1082s before that we're changing the minimum
1085s spec Hardware requirements and the one
1087s thing that I want to talk about
1088s specifically is the GPU we are upping
1091s the GPU from the GTX 770 and what we
1094s said in the previous video was to the
1095s GTX 1650 now I think this set some
1099s incorrect expectations when we said this
1102s um and I think it's I think largely
1104s because first of all one it is a better
1106s GPU the new minimum so that's
1109s true and that's fair and so I can
1111s understand that if some people aren't
1112s really happy with that minimum going up
1113s right uh having said that though the
1116s jump from like 770 to 1650 in version
1118s numbers sounds really really huge
1120s however the 1650 is not a super
1122s performant or high-end card uh and it's
1124s actually not that much better than the
1126s 770 and so what we want to do is um sort
1129s of like have some newly defined
1131s requirements here which should hopefully
1133s set the correct expectations and
1135s you can let us know if you are happy
1137s with those expectations or not but at
1138s least we're more correctly defining uh
1141s what it is you kind of need in order to
1143s run a satisfactory moving forward so the
1145s newly defined requirements are as
1146s follows uh NVIDIA GTX 1650 or GTX 1050
1150s TI or AMD rx470 or RX 570 or some
1155s equivalent uh GPU with you know with
1158s with equivalent performance and vram I
1160s know it just rolls off the tongue so
1162s just to give a rough idea of what that
1163s means is according to some benchmarks
1165s that we found online and so you can do
1167s with that what you will but the 1650 is
1169s about 25
1171s um better or more performant than the
1173s GTX 770 which is the pre-update 8
1176s minimum requirement and the RX 470 is 16
1179s better and the 1050 TI is actually 16
1182s less performant but it has more vram and
1186s again as we've talked about in this
1187s video vrm is the thing that you need uh
1190s for the game at this point
1193s um so that's why the 1050 TI should
1195s probably also be okay and one thing to
1197s mention I think here is also like it was
1199s kind of tricky like well what is the
1200s minimum requirements supposed to be do
1202s you need like these Hardware or else the
1204s game doesn't run at all and that's not
1206s really sort of like what we might mean
1208s by minimum because we've seen people
1209s play with integrated cards before when
1212s like our minimum spec was a dedicated
1214s card
1215s um but the thing is their results vary
1217s wildly from not being able to play at
1219s all or you know abysmal FPS it's the
1221s same kind of thing here
1222s um what are minimum specifications sort
1225s of like aim for is the minimum required
1228s specifications to be able to play
1229s satisfactory like meaningfully whatever
1231s that means okay not like the bare
1234s minimum to get it to launch we think
1235s that's not really fair to to specify
1237s that as minimum okay so that's what that
1239s sort of means yeah and so the main thing
1240s that was lacking in our pre-update 8
1242s requirements was the vram that was
1243s previously at two gigabytes and so
1245s that's like the major thing that we're
1248s upping the minimum specs for okay now
1250s having said that we do intend on
1252s optimize things moving forward so we're
1253s not like done working on that we do want
1255s to make it better we do want to like
1257s make the game use less vram so that's
1259s still a process that we're we're working
1261s on as well but um yeah anyway hopefully
1263s these new leads sort of like expanded
1265s upon uh Hardware requirements help help
1269s set expectations a little bit better for
1270s you so that's all that I wanted to talk
