s okay
s i just had a bunch of candy which i
s probably shouldn't have because now i'm
s all like hyper and
s but i couldn't help myself i got all
s fired up in the dream
s hi everyone my name is snoot i work at
s coffee stain studios i'm a community
s manager there and today i thought we'd
s talk about the map and the radar towers
s um specifically the changes that we're
s making to the map and the radar towers
s in update six so if you didn't know a
s couple of weeks ago i posted a video
s about pretty much all the changes that
s are coming in update six if you haven't
s seen that video yet sherbang there's the
s card right over there uh you can check
s it out if you want to and uh yeah in
s that video i mentioned that there's a
s bunch of changes coming to the map and
s the radar towers that are kind of tied
s into the exploration aspect of the game
s so i thought today we'd talk about those
s things and show them off because we've
s spent a significant time
s developing these changes and hopefully
s you'll like them so
s let's jump into the game shall we so
s here we are in the lush grass fields i'm
s out exploring uh
s i'm far away from home and uh yeah let's
s just bring up the map and see what it
s looks like now sherbang so yeah it's a
s lot bigger than before takes up a lot
s more real estate on the screen um the
s reason why it's not taking up like the
s entire screen is because the game isn't
s like paused when you have the the map
s menu open this little game is still
s running in the background we still kind
s of want to show you that a little bit so
s one key thing with the map too is that
s we've changed how you unlock it so the
s map is now unlocked in the onboarding
s process instead of being part of like
s the the
s the research chain and the mam
s so you will have access to the map a lot
s earlier in the game so as you may notice
s it's a bit different um we've got a
s couple more elements here that i want to
s bring up so first things i want to talk
s about this we've got like a coordinate
s system thingy here now so wherever the
s mouse cursor is it will display like
s where on the map that is in terms of
s coordinates uh you can also navigate to
s a specific set of
s uh coordinates so if you want to go to
s like the very center of the map you can
s zero zero uh this is by the way where
s all your vehicles will end up if the
s game bugs out they tend to like just
s teleport over there
s we'll fix that bug eventually hopefully
s but uh but yeah so this is pretty great
s if you want like if you're if you're
s playing with someone they're like hey
s check out that coordinates like 191
s 1924 for instance like you can check out
s something cool this is where i'm at or
s something like that you can type it in
s um so yeah very handy one major change
s we've done to how you interact with the
s map is that we've done away with beacons
s uh the main reason for this is because
s we felt that they were too clunky to use
s and it's always awkward when you're like
s you have to run up to the beacon to
s configure it so when you're like far
s away on the map and you have all the
s beacons like placed you can't like
s remove them easily individually you have
s to like actually go to them physically
s uh you can't change the names stuff like
s that so we always felt that like it's
s better to just interact with them on the
s map
s there are some cases where we feel like
s beacons might still be useful so we kind
s of see like if we actually do away with
s them completely um
s but
s the this system is sort of designed to
s like fill in
s you know sort of the same functionality
s as the beacons and more sort of so uh so
s let's check it out what we replace the
s begins with is this thing here new map
s marker right so you can place this
s wherever you want on the map and here
s you'll get sort of the same kind of
s functionality you had with the beacons
s so you can name this to be like this is
s the grass fields maybe new base question
s mark planning
s you can set an icon for this i'm quite
s happy with
s the house icon
s you can set a color to it maybe this is
s our pink base
s hell yeah
s um you can also customize whether or not
s this should be a small or a large marker
s on the map we'll set it to large
s there's also a couple of customization
s options here for how it will behave in
s the compass so you can set it to like
s never show up in the compass you can
s have it to show up only when you're
s close to it in the compass you can also
s set it to be you know always pretty much
s showing up um and yeah apply that stuff
s and then we'll show up and as you may
s notice here it's showing up at the
s compass and customize it so that it's
s off
s um and then it's gone
s you can also do this like for
s you know like every
s uh
s marker that you place in the compass and
s like tie them all in we'll get to that
s in a bit next up you may notice like all
s these like little icons and symbols down
s here so what these are are what we refer
s to as stamps so the stamps are kind of
s used for when you're out exploring on
s the map and you kind of want to leave
s like a little pin on the map you can
s place these little markers here so for
s instance if if you want like oh here's
s it's kind of obvious i guess but you
s know here's water you know or maybe you
s run into like some some something
s hazardous and mark that out so like oh
s remember that
s up on this arch dangerous right
s so you can place these stamps all over
s the map but another really cool thing
s with this is you can also do this in
s real time and like as you're running
s around so remember how
s if you hold alt and you left click you
s ping in the environment which by the way
s also show up on the map for other
s players uh what you can also do now is
s if you hold alt and right click
s your you can place these stamps like in
s the environment um so for you here
s for instance a markup is a bear bush the
s stamp is placed
s and it will show up on the map here
s showcase like here here's the belly bush
s um
s and if you hold alt these stamps will
s like show up as you get close to them so
s they will be here in the environment so
s you know after you're roaming around you
s might see like a resource you want to
s use you can mark that'll be like oh
s here's a cool resource or maybe you see
s like a barrel bush you want to remember
s like so you can mark that out or if you
s run into like a cave that you
s want to explore at some point but you
s don't want to do it right now
s you can also leave a little mark here to
s say like oh here's a cave entrance and
s you know all these things will show up
s in the environment as you're running
s around but they will also show up on the
s map
s for you to take notice of the markers
s that you place will scale with the map
s but the stamps won't so they're more for
s like actually like making notes of you
s know the environment and the map and
s like you know leave like little bread
s crumbs for yourself so one cool thing as
s well with the stamps and as well with
s the markers actually is if you place a
s stamp
s you may notice this like highlight
s marker and this is something that shows
s up on the the regular markers as well so
s what this does is if you click select a
s highlighter marker it will show up on
s the map and it will also be highlighted
s in like the actual environment so this
s is great if you know if you play like
s breath of the wild or you know eldon
s ring or anything like that it's pretty
s similar to that concept where you know
s we'll show you sort of a beacon in the
s world makes it a bit easier for you to
s like explore and like figure out where
s to go so you know if you're out
s exploring and you're like oh cool what's
s on this ridge you can be like mark this
s you know
s and highlight it and then as you're
s running around the environment you can
s see like oh cool look over there the
s beacons are lit condor calls for eight
s you know it makes it a bit easier for
s you exploring like having an actual like
s you know marker in the environment to
s sort of aim towards another key thing to
s take note of is that the stamps uh won't
s show up on the compass whereas the the
s you know the regular markers will
s however if you highlight a stamp you
s know it will show up in the compass uh
s as you're running towards it in in all
s haste um but that's the only occasion
s when the stamps will show up in the
s compass otherwise they're they're
s supposed to be more so like pins on the
s map and like you know actual
s environmental marks and you may also
s have noticed that there's this number
s down here available markers and stamps
s 11 out of 100. um
s this number isn't like set in stone or
s anything like that so don't read too
s much into this like maybe this is a good
s number maybe this is way too too few um
s we'll sort of see as time goes up here
s in the corner you've got the show menu
s so here's the new menu uh that we have
s for the map and this is pretty similar
s to our was before but a couple of new
s additions here as well so we've got the
s same kind of deal with where we order
s things so you can
s select you know kind of like what you
s want to show on the map or not you know
s you can select to hide
s like all the vehicles if you want you
s can hide all the radar towers and like
s all the other aspects of the game you
s can also select here uh which part
s should be in the compass or not so if
s you want the vehicles to show up on the
s map but not in the compass you know
s that's the setting you can have here so
s now the vehicle is gone and then
s now it's back and he just knows it's
s like if you want to like have all the
s stamps visible or not so if you want to
s hide all the stamps um you're able to do
s it here as well you now also have the
s options like search for stuff so you
s want to search for the grass fields or
s like the hub
s you know you can search them here and
s they will pop up in the menu all right
s so next i want to talk about our radar
s towers so let me place a radar tower
s here
s there we go so the radar towers function
s a little bit differently now now so the
s way that radar towers used to work is
s that when you place a radar tower you
s would sort of like unveil a portion of
s the map and they still function the same
s way so within a certain radius it will
s like
s get rid of like the the fog of war sort
s of uh but one thing we've added to the
s radar towers are that if you hover over
s them you will now see that radius but
s you will also see sort of what's in that
s radius
s so it will tell you sort of how many
s slugs they're in this radius that will
s tell you how many uh of the other
s collectibles there are uh which by the
s way if you didn't know this the
s summersloop and the mercersphere they're
s both kind of like place order items that
s we have in the game they are tied into
s the story of satisfactory um that's
s coming in 1.0 and they're in the game
s mostly now because we need to place them
s as placeholders so we know that where
s they are how many they are etc etc so
s you know there won't be like a huge
s subset of items just added uh we may
s tweak these further in line so like i
s don't think it's actually worth
s collecting these at this point but one
s thing that is important for you guys are
s the hard drives so here you can see that
s there's five hard drives within this
s area you can also get a sense of like
s what kind of like fauna are in there
s kind of floor exists here uh et cetera
s et cetera and similar to like as before
s you can also customize these so you can
s name this like the grass fields
s radar tower
s as of recording this you have to like
s actually go to the the radar tire to
s name it i think we have plans to sort of
s improve on this aspect as well later
s than the line where you can actually
s rename stuff on the map here but right
s now this isn't here in this current
s build one key thing with the radar tower
s 2 is that they now also reveal all the
s resources within that area within that
s radius of the radar tower um and this is
s great because now you can get a better
s sense of like what is in here like what
s is here instead of just using the the
s scanner so yeah i will show you all the
s resources that are here it'll also show
s the purity if you hover over them uh it
s will also show you if you've claimed the
s monastery over here for instance i've
s played a couple of iron roads
s um
s and a couple of quartz nodes apparently
s so yeah i will show you like these uh
s here in the list and you can also use
s this list like kind of like if you're
s looking specifically for copper r
s you can use this to highlight them on
s the map if you want to look specifically
s for unclaimed copper ore you can do that
s if you want to look for specific claimed
s iron ore for instance here uh you can do
s this as well they will highlight them um
s so yeah this this i this like the whole
s point of this is that you can get a
s better understanding of what's in the
s environment and a better sense of like
s plotting out what you want to do in that
s environment so you know if you see this
s environment you get the radar tower up
s you can you notice that like oh there's
s two coal nodes here i can probably use
s power but i probably need to rewrite you
s know
s conveyor belts going from this node to
s the other one if when i use both you
s know there's a bunch of iron ore here
s but they're all like in pure maybe so
s maybe i don't want to build there you
s know this is
s the whole sense of using the radar test
s is really so you can get a better
s understanding of like what's in here i
s want to kind of point out too is that
s the changes that were made to the map
s here they're mostly bound to exploration
s right there's there's not any changes to
s like how
s factory layouts or anything like that
s can tie into the map we have some ideas
s for that but we don't know if we'll like
s how far we'll go with that or even if we
s will go for that so
s just so you guys know like the map
s change that we're making for now they're
s all like exclusively for exploration
s purposes another little change we made
s to the compass is when you do the scan
s um
s the way it used to work is like if
s there's a bunch of nodes clutched
s together uh they will kind of like
s when we scan them they will all show up
s as like one thing uh and that's great
s when you're like far away because if you
s if we always show like every single node
s in the compass it gets really cluttered
s really fast so one thing we've added is
s that when you're far away from a node
s for instance like the one i have here we
s have a different icon on it so like when
s a node is clustered uh it will show up
s like this in the compass and if i come
s closer to it
s let me just
s how you doing there mr beanie but as i
s get closer to the cluster uh it will
s sort of like expand and open up and now
s we'll scan for every single node within
s that cluster um
s so
s i think this is great because now it
s gives you a better like sense of which
s nodes that are in like your closed
s vicinity so sometimes when you've been
s like searching for a specific node it
s might be hard to like find it especially
s since
s you know the compass has like clustered
s them together but now you actually have
s a sense of like where every single
s individual node are making a little bit
s easier to find every single one when
s they are clustered like they are here so
s there you have it those are the changes
s that we're making to the map and the
s radar towers we felt that it was
s important to kind of make these changes
s because we always felt that these
s aspects didn't you know fulfill sort of
s the role in the game especially the
s radar towers so hopefully you guys are
s stoked for the changes that we've made
s here and hopefully you guys will find
s this useful there's probably a couple of
s occasions where we need to tweak some of
s the user experience aspects of the
s changes of our map and these things will
s kind of come into place once we roll
s this out on experimental you guys
s actually get to try it out and uh you
s know feedback and send us send us all
s your lovely feedback on our question
s site questions.satisfactorygame.com
s uh once the the changes are in there so
s so yeah that's gonna be it for me today
s everybody hope you have a lovely day
s and hopefully we'll see each other soon
s all right take care everybody bye bye
s did i mention that
s that's probably fine all right cool bye
