s | hey everyone my name is Jason I'm a |
s | community manager at coffee stain |
s | Studios and you know what we've had a |
s | lot of feedback from people uh you know |
s | who have done their time in satisfactory |
s | and they just want to mess around or |
s | people whose playstyles just don't |
s | really jive with you know specifically |
s | what we've been trying to offer in the |
s | game and they would just want to play in |
s | their own way lots of people have been |
s | asking for game modes in satisfactory |
s | and it is my pleasure to announce to you |
s | that in update 8 game modes will be |
s | coming to satisfactory under the name of |
s | advanced game settings and advanced game |
s | settings will just be a suite of |
s | different functions that you can use to |
s | just modify the gameplay experience |
s | basically and just kind of play it |
s | however you want however one thing |
s | important to note is that these Advanced |
s | game settings they are considered a |
s | separate gameplay experience of |
s | satisfactory and this is not the |
s | intended base game experience that we're |
s | you know hand crafting for the average |
s | user but more information on that a |
s | little bit later in the video also |
s | before we go on for sanity's sake my god |
s | when I was writing the script for all |
s | saying Advanced game settings million |
s | times we're just going to shorten this |
s | we're going to abbreviate Advanced game |
s | settings to AGS and I know what you're |
s | thinking I know what you're thinking |
s | Jace you can't call it AGS that's the |
s | armadill godsword from old school |
s | RuneScape and there's nowhere near as |
s | cool as this |
s | but one can dream anyway we're using AGS |
s | moving forward it's just easier that way |
s | okay the first AGS the first Advanced |
s | Jesus now I hate AGS the first Advanced |
s | game setting AGS the first Aegis is |
s | flight mode and this is quite simple you |
s | turn it on and now you can fly so you |
s | just basically double tap the space bar |
s | when you're in game and you can just fly |
s | and um you press space to fly higher C |
s | to fly lower and you can hold shift to |
s | Sprint while flying as well so you go a |
s | bit quicker there is no way to adjust |
s | your flying speed apart from sprinting |
s | and not sprinting |
s | um and some of you I think that if |
s | you're like flying high up and trying to |
s | get from one side of the map to the |
s | other you might feel that the flying's |
s | like a little slow possibly but |
s | this is as fast as we're going to kind |
s | of make it for now you can make noise |
s | about that if you want it to be Foster |
s | and the team will consider it but |
s | basically this is about as quick as we |
s | can have it right now whilst also like |
s | maintaining the Integrity on the tech |
s | side of things where you know if you're |
s | flying too fast the world will have |
s | issues loading and then people will like |
s | complain about you know well things are |
s | popping in or not loading quick enough |
s | so the flight speed has to be sort of |
s | limited so that like there's a |
s | consistent experience while playing |
s | um if you you know want a faster flying |
s | you know I think there are mods out |
s | there for that that can sort of you know |
s | give that but you know you can always |
s | leave your feedback as well and you |
s | might be saying but Uncle Jace Uncle |
s | Jace hypertubes they go faster than that |
s | and stop just we're moving on we're just |
s | gonna move on that's a bug too that |
s | we're leaving in the game okay it's not |
s | a crafted experience anyway moving on |
s | moving on and now look the flying is not |
s | slow it's quite quick it's like you fly |
s | like a hundred kilometers an hour or |
s | something like that I believe I was told |
s | so it's still very quick and you know |
s | what it does other things like allowing |
s | you to navigate to random flying over a |
s | cliff so it's actually really really |
s | handy it's also really nice when when |
s | building you know just to fly you don't |
s | need to worry about your hover pack |
s | connecting to uh power lines or anything |
s | like that it's just really handy okay |
s | the only thing I can imagine some people |
s | saying is like maybe it's a little slow |
s | but uh I think it's I think it's fine |
s | well try it out when you play the next |
s | Advanced game setting is God mode and |
s | this is uh feature as old as time |
s | basically you're invincible and you |
s | can't take damage and you can't die |
s | which is pretty nice so you can just |
s | take a bunch of spit balls to the face |
s | from a spitter and uh and you're good |
s | however there's one exception the world |
s | Edge the world perimeter can still kill |
s | you so you can't fly out as far as you |
s | want or if you you know fall into an |
s | abyss or something that will still kill |
s | you but every other source of uh damage |
s | should be like nullified right so you |
s | shouldn't get that okay so basically |
s | you're Immortal but like it's like fix |
s | it brand Immortal you know what I mean |
s | the next setting is give items to give |
s | item setting this is a really really |
s | handy little setting here where it |
s | allows the player to give themselves any |
s | item in any amount that they want which |
s | is pretty sick so if you go into the AGS |
s | menu you'll see that there's under I |
s | think it's gameplay there's this button |
s | here that you can press and then in |
s | there you can search for and select |
s | Whatever item you want enter the |
s | quantity and you're good to go there's |
s | also this checkbox down the bottom part |
s | there which you can check |
s | um which switches the numbers of the |
s | items to uh Stacks right so instead of |
s | you know if you enter three with that |
s | checked you get three stacks rather than |
s | three items okay so that's that's that |
s | setting we're also introducing a no |
s | build cost setting as well to the game |
s | modes and this one is straightforward |
s | buildings require no resources to cost |
s | essentially so you can just build |
s | anything you want you know build away |
s | basically one one thing you can see here |
s | is that um the resources listed for the |
s | building that you're you're about to |
s | build when you're building |
s | um you know they're not there because |
s | obviously it's free now so that's just |
s | sort of some UI feedback there |
s | um also when you dismantle buildings you |
s | don't get the items for those buildings |
s | back when you dismantle them and the |
s | reason for that is quite simple when you |
s | have no build costs on you build and |
s | dismantle a lot and your your resources |
s | never recycle and so your inventory just |
s | fills up really quick and then you end |
s | up with crates everywhere full of items |
s | because your inventory overflows so we |
s | actually found that it's very very |
s | annoying if you get your resources back |
s | with no build cost so we're just making |
s | it so that you you can't do that and of |
s | course if you need more items for |
s | whatever reason you can use give items |
s | to get that so the next setting is the |
s | null unlock cost and this is again what |
s | it sounds like no resources or items are |
s | required to unlock anything this could |
s | be research in the mam it could be |
s | research stuff in the uh The Hub it |
s | could also be even coupons stuff right |
s | so in the awesome shop you know those |
s | don't require anything either not only |
s | that but the space elevator will no |
s | longer require any resources as well if |
s | you have this feature on and there's |
s | feedback in the menus here which um show |
s | that like no resources or items are |
s | required in order to do these things |
s | including on the space elevator |
s | um and also there's like some text here |
s | saying you know like no unlock cost |
s | active in the UI as well this next one |
s | is super handy as well but it's not like |
s | super super straightforward so we'll |
s | explain it but it's called unlock |
s | alternate recipe instantly this is is |
s | kind of self-explanatory but has some |
s | details so basically what it means is if |
s | this is checked that the second that you |
s | have all the required requirements for |
s | an ALT recipe to be unlocked it becomes |
s | unlocked and so what this means is |
s | essentially it removes the need for any |
s | hard drives at all you never have to go |
s | to the Mam and research your hard drives |
s | and get you know old recipes unlocked |
s | that way you just immediately get them |
s | the second you have the requirements now |
s | what are these requirements that I'm |
s | talking about I'm talking about like you |
s | need to have the certain buildings |
s | unlocked for that alt recipe as well as |
s | the resources unlocked uh for that old |
s | recipe so a couple examples can be the |
s | wet concrete which requires water and |
s | limestone in the refinery to produce |
s | concrete basically and so this recipe |
s | becomes available when the concrete |
s | recipe Refinery and water extractor have |
s | all been unlocked another example is |
s | still screws this requires still beams |
s | to produce screws and so this recipe |
s | becomes available once both the screw |
s | and steel beam recipe have been unlocked |
s | and that's just how that one works we |
s | have a no power setting that you can |
s | turn on and off and this just basically |
s | means that no buildings require power |
s | that's just all that means and so what |
s | this means for power production |
s | buildings if you take the biomass burner |
s | for example this only produces power |
s | when power is required no power will be |
s | required so it won't really do anything |
s | I don't think it'll even burn through |
s | fuel I'll have to double check that but |
s | then as for other production buildings |
s | so long as they're getting their inputs |
s | like coal and water in a coal generator |
s | for example they will just continue to |
s | produce power even though no power is |
s | used on the grid because you have the |
s | setting on and what this also means is |
s | that the all that power will be |
s | considered Excess power and that Excess |
s | power will be sent to power storage if |
s | you have any of them in the grid and so |
s | you can still charge power storage even |
s | with the no power setting on the next |
s | Aegis is going to be the ability to set |
s | the starting tier now this setting is a |
s | bit special unlike the other ones where |
s | this one can only be done when creating |
s | a new game you can't actually do this |
s | one in-game and basically it just gives |
s | you the ability to set what tier you |
s | want to start at and then you'll get |
s | some free items which will be provided |
s | that should sort of like match the |
s | selected tier that you've selected when |
s | you start so you'll start with some |
s | reasonable items that that makes sense |
s | given the tier the next setting is set |
s | game phase and this just allows you to |
s | set the space elevator project assembly |
s | phase manually just sort of whenever you |
s | want so you can just advance that as you |
s | wish I think you can only Advance it in |
s | One Direction I don't think you can |
s | regress it back to a previous version |
s | but that's a setting that you can play |
s | around with now and this is available in |
s | game and also I think available when |
s | you're creating a new AGS save more |
s | information about creating an AGS save |
s | later we also have options to unlock all |
s | tiers unlock all memory search and |
s | unlock all shop uh items I guess you |
s | would call them and yeah these are just |
s | three different checkbox here and you |
s | can just check whichever one you know |
s | you want to unlock everything from so if |
s | you just want the memory search you can |
s | just check that one if you want or you |
s | can check all of them and apply and |
s | you'll get everything and so the next |
s | setting is going to be the keep |
s | inventory setting and there are some key |
s | informational updates here about this |
s | okay so first of all what is the setting |
s | this is what happens to your inventory |
s | when you die and there's three options |
s | you either lose everything which is what |
s | how it currently works you lose |
s | everything but you keep your equipment |
s | which is different and then also that |
s | you lose nothing if that's what you want |
s | as well now one thing to note here is we |
s | are changing the default setting of this |
s | to be keep equipment so when you die now |
s | you you drop all your items but you |
s | bring all your equipment and this is |
s | something that I think a lot of people |
s | have given some feedback on because it |
s | can be really tedious to like craft more |
s | um Blade Runners or something like that |
s | and then to run and pick up your Blade |
s | Runners again |
s | um so we're now making the change where |
s | you keep the equipment that's that's |
s | um equipped on you but everything else |
s | gets dropped and so what this kind of |
s | means is that if you want the old |
s | version of the of the game the more |
s | hardcore version where you you drop |
s | everything that will actually be an |
s | advanced game setting that you need to |
s | turn on the last setting that I want to |
s | talk about today is disable arachnid |
s | creatures uh you know if you're scared |
s | of cats and spiders |
s | um then with this feature you can now |
s | remove all the spiders from the game |
s | entirely with some of these features and |
s | this one especially you know there's |
s | sort of the question of like well |
s | shouldn't this be like an accessibility |
s | feature and possibly I think you could |
s | argue that either either way but |
s | basically we sort of think that the the |
s | removal of an entire creature type |
s | completely from the game is a bit too |
s | much of an impact on |
s | um the base game essentially and the |
s | current combination we feel that the |
s | current combination of arachnophobia |
s | mode plus uh creature hostility which |
s | will both of these things will remain as |
s | accessibility options in the normal |
s | options menu they're not Advanced game |
s | settings and that the combination of |
s | those two together should alleviate most |
s | if not all accessibility issues uh in |
s | the game so we think that that should go |
s | far enough but if you want to take it to |
s | the next step and just get rid of all |
s | the arachnid spider singers whatever |
s | from the game completely you can use |
s | this option to do that as well uh one |
s | other thing to mention real quick is |
s | that the menus have changed in general |
s | just the menus in general and so the |
s | creature hostility and Arachnophobia |
s | mode options are in different places in |
s | the menu so just keep an eye out for |
s | that when you uh when you get updated so |
s | I know what you're thinking these sound |
s | fun but aren't these a little too op |
s | juice velvet man |
s | that's what you guys sound like now I |
s | need a drink of water holy uh yeah |
s | yeah a lot of these are absolutely too |
s | op for satisfactory and many of them I |
s | think undermine what the you know |
s | originally intended experience of |
s | satisfactory satisfactory and many of |
s | them in my opinion undermine uh what the |
s | original you know intended uh experience |
s | of satisfactory was supposed to be for |
s | example flying alone undermines |
s | exploration |
s | um and render certain items like jet |
s | packs hover packs maybe even zip lines |
s | and things like that um basically |
s | Obsolete and ladders obsolete |
s | um and generally speaking we still do |
s | want satisfactory to be challenging as |
s | far as planning your factory number |
s | crunching organizing and designing your |
s | factories where you want to place them |
s | these kind of decisions even combat and |
s | exploration as far as that goes we still |
s | want that to be a little bit challenging |
s | as well the feeling of being |
s | um a little overwhelmed within |
s | satisfactory thinking about all the |
s | things you need to do next but then |
s | overcoming that sensation is a core more |
s | experience to what we're trying to |
s | strive for in satisfactory having said |
s | that though but what we intend |
s | satisfactory to be is not always the way |
s | that some people like to play the game |
s | some people might just want to build |
s | stuff and some just might have |
s | accessibility needs and this has been |
s | clear this has been clearly demonstrated |
s | through feature requests on the QA site |
s | and not only that but also when we just |
s | look at the Modern Community how |
s | thriving that is people just want to |
s | have different experiences with |
s | satisfactory if that's what they want to |
s | do and so that's kind of why we want to |
s | offer some of these features out of the |
s | box however in doing this we actually |
s | ran into a lot of roadblocks internally |
s | a lot of back and forth about this |
s | um trying to figure out well like you |
s | know how much is too much is this |
s | undermining our entire game but we also |
s | want to provide these features you know |
s | what do we do like if the settings are |
s | there and they're too easy to access the |
s | temptation to shortcut the game the |
s | second you get challenged is maybe too |
s | great and might ruin certain people's |
s | satisfaction with the game long term |
s | gamers are at the end of the day often |
s | very quick to opt optimize the way |
s | they're fun if they can exploit |
s | something or use use cheats or something |
s | like that or additional options but |
s | we're also giving these features so we |
s | don't want them to be too hard to access |
s | you know for the people who uh you know |
s | want to play the game in a different way |
s | people who are optimizing their fun to |
s | to have as much fun as they can have |
s | specifically them right and not only |
s | that one other thing we wanted is that |
s | we wanted the ability for people who had |
s | existing saves who have done their time |
s | in the game hundreds of hours on their |
s | save file who want to you know mess |
s | around with Advanced game settings we |
s | wanted them to be able to opt into that |
s | as well and yeah it has been quite a |
s | process to try and balance all of these |
s | needs and concerns as we were doing this |
s | but we think we've I think we've come to |
s | something that works pretty well but |
s | would obviously love your feedback on |
s | this so how do you access the features |
s | then currently you can enable Advanced |
s | game settings when you start a new save |
s | or when you load an existing save so |
s | when creating a new save you'll see an |
s | advanced game settings button down the |
s | bottom and you can click on that |
s | there'll be like some warning and stuff |
s | like that and then there'll be some |
s | settings you can you can change the |
s | other way that you can get into AGS mode |
s | is by loading an existing save there'll |
s | be a check mark if it's a save that is |
s | not in AGS mode there's a check mark |
s | that you can click on to enable Advanced |
s | game settings and then when you load |
s | that save that save will then be in |
s | advanced game settings so but one thing |
s | to note here is that this is kind of a |
s | one-way Street once AGS is enabled on a |
s | save it cannot be disabled for that save |
s | anymore there will be a warning before |
s | you do this a box that explains clearly |
s | that this is a one-way Street you know |
s | if you opt into this there's no going |
s | back on the save having said that though |
s | if you wish to preserve your old non-ags |
s | save and Branch out you can still do |
s | that because if you open up uh you know |
s | if you load a save file using AGS you |
s | can then save that as a different save |
s | and now you've got a separate AGS save |
s | keeping your old one intact you can also |
s | back up your saves and we feel that you |
s | know this work route is like maybe a |
s | little cumbersome here and there but we |
s | think it's pretty good you have control |
s | over your saves you can you can have a |
s | fun save with all the settings if you |
s | want and a vanilla save as well if |
s | that's what you want so the control is |
s | still in your hands you can choose |
s | whatever you want to do we previously |
s | had had this set up to be much simpler |
s | where you could just do this mid game |
s | whenever you want you could just go into |
s | advanced game settings make some changes |
s | you know and and whatever but we really |
s | wanted to make the process of enabling |
s | AGS to be as clear and as conscious of |
s | an action for players with multiple |
s | steps and this is in order to |
s | intentionally create friction to |
s | dissuade people who are feeling |
s | challenged by the game uh into using AGS |
s | uh just just to get over it in the |
s | moment right but it also clearly |
s | communicates what is the base game and |
s | what isn't the base game right so that's |
s | another really important uh reason for |
s | us doing it this way but at the same |
s | time these steps are still really really |
s | easy to do so if you just want to have |
s | the ajs features you can have them |
s | they're very easy takes like 30 seconds |
s | so if you want it it'll still work but |
s | we think that it was a little unfair to |
s | dangle these settings in front of you |
s | mid game for everyone |
s | um you know uh we think it's a little |
s | unfair for the player in that case |
s | because people might end up doing |
s | something that I really want to do and |
s | use features that they didn't actually |
s | want to use but the advanced game |
s | settings will still be in the main menu |
s | uh if you have an AGS enabled save right |
s | if you're playing on an AGS enabled save |
s | the the settings will be right there in |
s | the main menu and some of the settings |
s | will only be available when starting |
s | creating a new save file and enabling |
s | AGS on that for example the the set |
s | starting tier another thing to note is |
s | that when you're browsing through your |
s | your save files uh and when you're you |
s | know you know you're going to load a |
s | game uh you'll notice that there's some |
s | icons here we'll have a little pencil on |
s | it and on the session and that means |
s | that within that session there are some |
s | there's at least one save that has AGS |
s | enabled and you can see here that um on |
s | there's a list of saves here under this |
s | one session some of them have advanced |
s | game settings enabled and some of them |
s | don't and this is because I branched my |
s | saves using the method I said before I |
s | would load in with AGS enabled and then |
s | save the game and that would be a |
s | separate save you might be wondering |
s | what happens in multiplayer with these |
s | settings and so for multiplayer games |
s | the host or the admin uh the admin on |
s | dedicated servers can enable AGS in the |
s | exact same way as single player you can |
s | start a new game with Aegis enabled or |
s | you can convert an existing same save |
s | into an AGS enabled save however clients |
s | will not have access to any AGS enabling |
s | settings |
s | at all on a save that does not have AGS |
s | enabled but if a save file is in AGS |
s | mode clients will have access to all of |
s | the AGS settings so there is an obvious |
s | potentially problematic situation here |
s | where perhaps the admins might want |
s | control over AGS settings but they don't |
s | want the clients to have control over |
s | AGS settings currently as the |
s | implementation is today there is no |
s | solution for this everyone who's in the |
s | game has access to all the AGS settings |
s | so this is something that you will need |
s | to keep in mind if you are a host and |
s | you play with friends or if you run a |
s | dedicated server if you're going to run |
s | AGS settings you need to bear in mind |
s | that you know your your friends or the |
s | people in your server can can change |
s | these settings and we also have a little |
s | icon on each of the settings which sort |
s | of show which ones which settings affect |
s | everyone on the server and which |
s | settings only affect the individual dual |
s | player because some settings only affect |
s | your your game but some settings affect |
s | everyone else's as well and and so like |
s | the obvious like you know solution for |
s | this is some sort of like permissions or |
s | role system or something like that and |
s | that's something that we've you know |
s | been eyeing for for some time and I |
s | don't know what the solution for this |
s | will end up being but right now we just |
s | don't have it and it is something that |
s | we want to implement a solution for in |
s | the future but right now there's just no |
s | no concrete plans on that okay so |
s | that is just how it is right now so the |
s | last thing I want to talk about real |
s | quick is going to be feedback and that |
s | is because we want to continue getting |
s | feedback from you guys for satisfactory |
s | that game is still in Early Access and |
s | we really really want your suggestions |
s | and Bug reports and all that kind of |
s | stuff now this these game modes these |
s | Advanced game settings |
s | um this is a pretty major addition to |
s | satisfactory and it's one that we have |
s | intended on adding for a very long time |
s | we've talked about this for years |
s | literally |
s | um but we have held off and the main |
s | reason for that is because we wanted |
s | feedback about the base game and we |
s | still want that if you ever feel that |
s | the base game is too hard or things are |
s | unbalanced or you know something like |
s | that please please please let us know on |
s | the QA side |
s | question.satisfactorygame.com please let |
s | us know because our goal is still to |
s | tune the base game to be to make that |
s | right to make that feel good okay these |
s | extra settings is you know the ajs the |
s | advanced game settings generally |
s | speaking are not being implemented to |
s | substitute for poor balancing or |
s | anything like that okay so we still want |
s | the base game to be tight so we still |
s | need that feedback back as well if you |
s | find yourself needing to go to Advanced |
s | game settings to have any fun at all |
s | that's a great moment to let us know |
s | that you feel that way and why you feel |
s | that way because maybe it means that we |
s | need to do some work to the base game |
s | and we would also just love feedback on |
s | what you think of the implementation so |
s | far and also if you have any game |
s | settings that you think should be added |
s | to the AGS menu we're all ears for that |
s | kind of stuff and yeah that's pretty |
s | much it pretty big video lots to talk |
s | about I hope you're interested in this I |
s | think it's pretty exciting I think a lot |
s | of people are going to really enjoy |
s | these new settings and so if you're |
s | pumped for it |
s | um you know leave a like leave a like |
s | consider subscribing and have a lovely |
s | weekend bye everyone |
