This is a problem in Catalina that has affected those games, plus other unrelated games. Until and unless Apple put out a fix, there really isn't much you can do except to juggle resolutions and display modes until it works acceptably on your hardware.

You can see some discussion of it in EU4 here:
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...renders-half-black-on-macos-catalina.1270623/

Post #37 in that thread may help you.

Good luck with that!

Jienz said: Thank you for the pointer, the second message (from you) reads:

"I have hopes this will be fixed in 10.15.1 , if not our devs will have to look into it further."

Since it appears to not be fixed in Catalina 10.15.1, o you have an update on what the devs found?
Yeah, that info is WAY outdated by now. The Devs say it is a problem in the openGL shader compiler in Catalina. As they haven't fixed it in 10.15.4 still, it does not look good!

We are just not seeing this problem any more, I thought Apple must have fixed it. I've been on 10.15.6 and now Big Sur with no problem.

What MacOS are you on now?

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/EU4/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/EU4/logs/ folder, attach system.log , error.log .

Also in Steam please click on Steam-Help-System Info, and paste everything there into a text file and attach that here.

Desktop Resolution: 1792 x 1120

value="1536x960"
What happens if you set the game at the Mac's desktop resolution?

This is when the game is set to 1792 x 1120 , is that right? I think the problem is that neither of these resolutions:
Desktop Resolution: 1792 x 1120
"fullscreen_resolution"={
value="1536x960"
Are listed in the supported ones in that system.log. I think any of them in there from 1280 x 800 upwards will probably work for you.

System.log won’t show any errors. Are you saying that any supported resolution shows the same sort of display issues as before, with cut-off segments etc?

if so I frankly have no idea how this is still affecting you, but apparently no one else any more.

Have you done clean reinstalls of these games since going to the latest MacOS?

Here is that process:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user_empire_designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox/Stellaris folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing again.

**File Locations on Mac OS X**
The executable and DLC folder are in Users/USER/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris/
To see it go to the Finder, hit command-shift-G (ie Go To) and type in ~/Library/ .
The user files (settings.txt, error logs, saved games, gfx, mods) are in /Users/USER/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ .
