so if I pre-order this now on discord what happens when the early access version comes later this year? will I still have to play it via discord or will it move to steam - how does that work
You will have to play it on Discord yes.
so I guess it wouldnt make sense to preorder it on discord if I've already backed (temtem tamer tier) on kickstarter since I'll be receiving the game on steam once the early access comes?
You can change your steam preorder for a Discord preorder and get alpha access now. Read our latest Kickstarter update for more info about that :)
