[2019] How do you feel about the usage of memes in NPC dialogues?

I can remember three instances where NPCs reference memes. One was a "the cake is a lie" joke, "Ah, I see you are a person of culture as well".

and "You shall not pass".

As well as the attack "Bamboozle", which says "Give'em the old razzle dazzle!" in its description.

I would like to know how you feel about them. Personally, I'm not a fan. It gives the game a "How do you do, fellow kids?" vibe, and also makes it age very poorly. The devs of Borderlands 2, a game filled with memes in both achievements and dialogues, have expressed regret over doing it as well.

I'm fine with references to Pokemon, like the guy who says he saw something under a truck

, at least if they are not overused.

It takes me right out of the experience and in my opinion, takes away some of the games own indentity.
