Hello everyone, as a background of myself, I’m a breeder. That’s by far the part of the game that attracts me the most (second being PVP). As a result, I bred every single Tem in the game at least once, I did breed some Tems with different SVs (such as 1 SPD) and had over 500 perfect/eggs.
Personally, I treat breeding as a game of odds (just like any card game). What I mean by that is the following: I always try to pick the option that gives me the best mathematical chance of being successful, but I’m always prepared for the worse.
Lately I’ve seen a lot of misinformed ppl breeding, and i would like to try my best to change that a bit, and give some inputs (those might be obvious for some ppl).
First of all, I’m assuming whoever reads this already knows the basics of breeding. If you don't, watch this video. And then, second of all, I understand that you might need a lot of money to put these advices into practice, so I would honestly say that it might be better to have a second source of income until you become self-sufficient with breeding only. Without further ado, these are my breeding rules:
Rules of breeding
1 - Do not sell/swap 5 SVs males with Fert left
2 - Do not sell/swap 5 SVs females with correct trait and Fert left
3 - Always breed all egg moves into your batch (as early as possible)
4 - Always breed the 3 SVs twice (until it reaches 3 fert)
4.1 - If it’s a **Rare Tem** (Smazee, Houchic, Yowlar…) consider going further
4.2 - Consider breeding the 2 SVs + SPD more in case it’s a **Rare Tem**
5 - Do not sell a perfect Tem with fertility left
6 - Do not hatch any eggs with 0 fertility (sell the egg)
7 - Do not breed a Tem with a non perfect SV (1 SPD, 9 SPD, random ATK or random SPATK)
8 - Do not breed Tems with different fertilities (unless it's 2 SVs + SPD)
Explanation
1 - A breeder will always end up needing a male later, and it’s far better to have an extra male then an extra female. A female leaves you stuck in that specific species (not a bad thing if it’s a rare Tem) but a male is ALWAYS useful.
2 - Similarly, a Tem with the correct PVP trait is worth far more than a wrong trait (there are some exceptions to that, like Babawa, Zephyruff, Kalabyss etc). And if you see yourself with a lot of females, don’t be afraid of swapping female for male or even selling the female. But if it has all egg moves and the correct trait, it might be a good idea to keep it for later.
3 - When breeding, it’s very important to have all egg moves as early possible, in order to use different species to complete the cycle and, also, in case you happen to get too many females and need a gender swap or to sell (makes it way easier).
4 - Breeding the 3 SVs Tems means making multiple 5 SVs, which are the most valuable thing a breeder can have. If you look at the investment and the return, there’s no question that breeding to get a 5 SVs with 4 Fert and 3 Fert are worth it. Specially if you happen to get more males with 3 Fert to use later (remember that the first 7/7 you finish has 3 Fert, and can be used with a 5 SVs 3 fert you breed). As an example, I saw multiple ppl paying 10k per fertility of males 5 SVs on discord, this would result in a 20k profit just because of one rebreed.
5 - This is self explanatory. Selling Tem with fertility is a waste of potential money. It makes the Tem more expensive (harder to find a buyer, because it becomes a different Niche) and an overall waste. Just wait a couple weeks and use it on a new project, then sell it fertless later (there are some exceptions, such as Raiber or 1 SPD Yowlar, which are very hard to get rid of the Fert).
6 - A bit self explanatory as well. A random egg is most likely worth more than a hatched (and you don’t have to risk getting a bad trait). Consider locking the trait, even if you are going to sell it for just 10k more and that’s the price of the item. It’s easier to sell a locked trait rather than a random trait.
7 - This is one of the best advice I can give you. Do not try to breed a special Tem with some different SVs (or missing the unused attack attribute). The reason for that is while you can make a nice profit selling a very niche Tem, the leftovers are going to be pretty much useless. They are going to be hard to trade/sell and you are going to be stuck with them for a while. It’s far easier to just breed it perfect 7/7 and when someone else breeds it, just open your wallet and buy an egg.
8 - Also self explanatory, it's a huge waste in the end.
Final considerations: I put up these advices really quick and wasn't able to proof read yet. It might be very confusing, and I apologize for that. Feel free to leave any questions you have about breeding, or asking me about something I wrote that wasn't very clear. I intend to add some cool tricks you can do, while breeding, later on. Let me know if you guys like the idea of a thread like this.
