As the ZXlog says, all is related to a bad installation of SlimDX. Make sure that there is nothing blocking a proper installation of this tool. Antivirus, firewalls and specifically real time scanners usually block this.

They can spawn anywhere along the map edges but always is said the edge from they are are coming. Also you have to take into account that a natural obtacle like forest or mountains can change the horde's direction so you have to watch it meticuluosly.

Probably there is something blocking the configuration file. Check your antivirus or firewall and also the writing permission in Windows. If the Configuration file is modifed these changes should be kept.

You have several ways to get your attack notification; by voice, by a warning in the top left of your screen and also a blink in your mini map.

I undertand that the game, when you are being attacked from five or six different points, can avoid one of the warning but how you describe it, it's like if the warning system doesn't work at all. And this is not happening.

What do you mean turned on manually? I get notifications when a unit is being attacked, it is turned on... but it does not happen every time a unit is attacked. it is possible for a unit to get attacked and killed 1...
