This way it should be a better repositioning tool and should reduce her 'sitting duck's time, but that's just a thought coming from another loba main. I know you guys like feedback, so here I leave mine.

Hey Daniel, this might sound weird but...like 80% of why I play Loba is because of that beautiful landing animation with her bracelet. I love that shit. I would hate it to get shortened.

I don't think the landing animation is the problem. I never die because of it. When I die using the bracelet, it's because of either the taking the bracelet off animation being too long, and/or because the bracelet moves rather slowly in the air.

If you are going to make the bracelet faster, I suggest speeding up the throwing animation and/or making the bracelet travel faster in the air, and keep the flashy gorgeous landing animation alone.

Travel faster in the air would be last resort; it would require some work on the visual effect to make it look good and it has the highest risk of negatively impacting combat legibility. Point taken on the beautiful arrival anim; maybe most of our shortening needs to be in the taking off anim. Like I said tho, this is experimental stuff we're still playtesting and there's a good chance we won't ship it if it's not healthy for the game.

I also wanted to bring this up and see if you have a solution? It has gotten me and other lobas killed too much during sniper peak fights. Crouching is pointless because it doesn’t lower your head at all so forget meds and reloading. My suggestion is a reduced headshot multiplier for loba or fortified while ADS crouching with a 3x+ scope.

That was news to me! I'll discuss with the team on Monday.

Oh nice find! I had no idea. I'll bring this up with the team on Monday, no promises on when we can address.

You pick her for loot and ammo, she gives the rest of her team the best chance of winning due to superior firepower/armour. At the end of the game though, she is kinda pointless.

Would like to see them fix her dodgy head peak issue and improve her tac (something like speed it up, let her draw her weapon/improve her mobility after its thrown, don't make it leave a trail, remove the sound effect, etc.). She still wouldn't be considered a necessary legend, but it might help her in combat. If they're going to keep horizon as she is and buff wraiths abilities after the hitbox nerf, then loba needs something to compete. Even Octanes jump can be more useful for building hopping (hitting someone in air is harder than someone stagger...

Fun story: we had Loba being able to look into and open care packages just barely ready to go out with the airdrop takeover, but wouldn't have had any playtesting time, so we considered it too risky. That fix should come soon!

I agree with you! Coming from a game like League that patches every other week the pacing felt glacial to me as well. Not that this will help you, but it's not devs being lazy; making a game that has to go through certification for console adds a lot of overhead, and with the current patch schedule we already have less than a week of time between one patch releasing live and us having to lock the next patch. When performance data also has lag time (generally we see win and pick rates that are 2-3 days old) it's hard to see how we could go much faster.

I will say this, and I don't know how much you'll care about it, but Respawn really cares about their devs. There's no crunch here that I've seen; certainly no mandated crunch. I think that kind of stuff is really important for hiring and retention and long term you all get better games because there's an experienced happy team that isn't worked to within an inch of its life.

Also it's just the right thing to do.

Is that still happening? Ugh :( Sorry! We're fixing those as we find them, but unfortunately a level designer has to go in and fix each of those places where it fails individually.

For real, I hate how we're left starving for the slightest adjustments for seasons on end. I'm getting so fed up of waiting for nothing... Meanwhile Horizon exists. Why are they so scared of even giving Loba the tiniest buff to her tactical? Yes, she's a support character, but there are still things that can be done.

We buffed her like every patch since she released? I think what it is is you really wanted a buff to her tactical, which is understandable: we were so concerned with balance and combat readability that we made it not feel very good at all to use.

Comment

To clarify: by good I mean she's picked a healthy amount and wins a good amount of her games. We've buffed her literally every patch since she came out so she's gonna chill for Season 8, at least for the initial patch. One of our designers is playing around with how much time we can shave off tactical to make it feel better--making it faster apparently has implications on the VFX and it's also one of the scarier changes in terms of you losing track where she went, so we wanna try just making it faster to use and go from there. Like I said, not gonna be in Season 8, possibly also not in 8.1; might never ship if we find it's too powerful in playtest or if her pick and win rate continue going up.

EDIT: Having written this of course I remember there was a non-tac related fix that will likely go into Season 8: the ability to look into airdrops and open them with ult. No rest for Loba I guess.

I think it will be good because there’s been many times where I’ve and many others have accidentally thrown it right in front of us and then have to wait 30 seconds for it to recharge I hope you see this

Definitely could do that! Could also just shave off time in general. I think the animations pre and post use could also do with some tightening. Thing is, she's pretty good right now. Will let her rest for a patch or two.

Definitely an 8. But just you wait for seasons 9 and 10! ;P

Kind of off topic, but how are you guys trying to handle the lever action? And what types of situations do you think it will work best in?

There's gonna be an AMA for Season 8 I expect! You'll be able to ask our weapon designers all kinds of questions there.

Gonna try giving it some health while it builds first. Worried about getting the amp too quickly. It's not off the table in case the health while building doesn't do enough.

Could just be at right angles, but I thought when it came out that we'd be able to use it more than vertically. I mean something like that could push teams out of doors, from behind cover, etc

Horizon's the most powerful Legend in the game now. I don't think we'll be talking about Horizon buffs for a while ;P

(We did try the attach to surfaces to push gadgets on a different prototype once! It was a big placeable that would do what you said: attach to any surface and push people away from it. You could reactivate it to switch to pulling in. It was... uh... chaos and not very promising in terms of doing good things for the game ;P If you ever got to use it near a map edge where you could push people off the map, it would win the game for you; everywhere else it just turned combats into chaos.)

I'm sorry but I can't help with this! I hear your pain and I wished I could just tell someone to put servers into an African server center, but this is many levels above my paygrade. I'm not sure what considerations go into this, but I have to trust that if there was any way to make this happen, someone with the decision power to make it happen will do the right thing. I can absolutely bring it up to leadership again, but I'm sure people are aware. Sorry! I'm just a guy who f*cks up Legend balance.

I think I talked about this before, but the reason we killed old Mirage ultimate was that we all agreed invisibility you can use offensively had no place in Apex Legends. Sorry, that aspect is not coming back!

TBF, the argument for "unhealthy it was for the game to be able to throw down a wall midfight, have instant cover to heal/reload behind" is a bit hard to swallow when comparing to Overwatch's Shield (and even TitanFall 2's original A-wall, Hard Cover, and Tone's Shield). Would you elaborate a bit on the mindset, specifically why it works for Overwatch and Titanfall 2, but not Apex?

As for the second part: As a Rampart user, who played TeamFortress 2 and even Overwatch, I will definitely take the gradual increasing health. It is the health mechanism for both engineer's and Torb's turret. While annoying as turret (since they are here to shoot, not block), for Wall it's actually workable, in that it still give me a chance to block some shots. If you want rampart to be attack focus like riot police and their shield, their shield need to be always available.

Yeah absolutely! I've given my thoughts on this before so apologies if this is all old news to anyone.

So Overwatch and Apex look very similar but they're fundamentally different genres within FPS: one is a class based shooter, the other is a gunplay-first shooter with character abilities. The quickest way to differentiate is to ask yourself how often do you die to abilities. In Apex the answer should be very rarely; in Overwatch it should be rather common. The other way to differentiate is to ask yourself if characters have their own weapons they start with and that are balanced and designed around their kit, or if they can pick up and use any weapon.

Add to that the fact that Overwatch isn't a single life game where it's a lot more acceptable to die to a random Junkrat ult you didn't see coming because you're just going to respawn in a few seconds anyway.

So in class-based shooters, character abilities should absolutely dictate the outcome of the action....

I really like this idea. I'm imagining the bottom portion slowly sliding up like a garage door, so she gradually becomes less exposed. It also gives you a choice between destroying the wall or shooting at rampart, to make wall health less frustrating. So if you react quickly, the wall basically provides no protection, but if you wait a bit longer, you'll need good aim or you'll hit the wall

So we played around with this and looked at it from all angles, and letting bullets through while the wall was building just looked like a bug. We'd need to redo the visuals of the wall building to make that okay in any way shape or form. So we're currently thinking of trying something a lot more spicy and dangerous: 45 health on the wall while it's building, no ramp up, no bullet penetration other than snipers (sniper bullets also go through players, so that seemed fine).

I'm really worried about overbuffing her, but at this point she needs something real.

I don't think we have, but that's probably because it was a much shorter duration ability to begin with. This is a good suggestion! I'll bring it up to the team.
